Dog Food Recall Vote for this post

Evanger's Dog and Cat Food has been recalled in 15 states due to euthanasia drugs being found in it. If you're feeding Evanger's Hunk of Beef wet food, stop immediately! You wonder how in the world this could happen...
Love, Deb, Emmie, and Angel Kelsie

Yes that was on the news here as Washington
was one of the states affected.
I don't know what may have happened.
Evangers is a quality food.
Maybe a disgruntled employee.
The news said Evangers is paying all vet bills for affected dogs and cats.

How scary .
We changed our food several weeks ago to a top brand recommended by many vets. It is called Acana. They have a lot to choice we bought Meadowland with free run Kentucky poultry,Fresh water fish & nest laid eggs. Both Levi and Winter love the food this is our second bag from Chewy.com it is Biologically appropriate wholeprey diet top six ingriediets, high palatabillity.fresh and local. The reviews are all fantastic and I no longer have to give Winter her allergy pills. Acana is not cheap but it is tops if you give kibble.
I put chicken breast in the crock pot with some water and give them that just a little over the kibble. They go wild over it.

I heard about this recall.  I have never heard of this dog food and don't know anything about it but I can tell you how it might have happened.  All of the lower end dog foods and other dog food companies use the meat of sick euthanatized animals that is considered by law unsuitable  for human consumption.  It is a fact that high kills shelters sell their many euthanized dogs, cats and anything else they murder to slaughterhouses to be turned into dog and cat food and animal feed.   If you read cheap dog food labels and see,  animal buy products as one of the ingredients,  euthanized shelter dogs and cats are part of the garbage that your pet is eating!   Like I said I am not familiar with this dog food but I bet they are getting their meat from farm animals who have had to be euthanatized do to illness or other issues.  It is a known fact that the euthanasia drugs used to kill animals remain in their bodies and can be past on to other animals who are eating the food made from their meat.  This is a sickening topic to me and that is one of the many reasons why I am so picky what I feed my Caesar.  Yoka I am not familiar with the new food you are feeding Levi and Winter but I intend to check it out.  I hope I did not upset any ones stomach with these sad facts but unfortunately they are reality. Yoka I did some investigating on Acana Dog Food.  I subscribe to the Whole Dog Journal and the February issue has their list of Approved Dry Dog Foods.  Acana is on the list and looks excellent.  Great review and looks like a very high quality food. No recals either.  I just added it to my chewy.com delivery for this month.  Also checked out this Evanger's brand.  Looks like this was their first recall.  Got average reviews compared to other brands..  Unfortunately if they used animals obtained from renders that process dead animals there is a risk of contamination of euthanasia drugs in their food.  Maybe they need to get honest and change their practices!!  Louise, Caesar and Angel Murphy

Happy to read that you agree that Acana Dog food is so great. I was reading all the reviews before I made a order. It is very high healthy dogfood and also grain free. iIt is more expensive but that is ok with me I want good healthy dog food for Levi and Winter. They love it and are thriving on it. I no longer have to give Winter her allergy pills because of this fantastic dog food. Wish I had heard of it when we still had our Moshe. I still buy the treats grainfree from Fromm on Chewy.com too.
I learned it from a Holistic vet. Fresh food is the best like the wolves do .Than canned food and after that
kibble food. It is Holistic kibble and also no grains.
They sure love it.
Was shocked to read that they make dog food from sick dogs. That is terrible. I read everything before I buy and check everything too.
Have a great day,
Love,Yoka,Winter and Levi

Having read some of the articles regarding this dog food, I think the company has done a great deal to ensure this will not happen again. To quote them "All future batches of their beef product will not be released to the public until it has been tested."

85 years is a long time to NOT have any recalls, so they must be doing something right. Quote "have terminated our relationship with their supplier (of 40 years) and will no longer purchase their beef".

As David said "Maybe a disgruntled employee" He could very well be right

Louise, you are very right about euthanized animals being sent to rendering plants, very sad and very stupid as it is well known that 'Mad Cow' disease came from feeding bovine carcass meat to dairy cattle.

I think it would be a shame to see this company go under because of this one issue.  Switching to another manufacturer might get you a product with far worse ingredients.  Just my thoughts ;)

Theo you are so right.  I never heard of this company and never used any of its products.   I periodically do change Caesar's food up a little. This is recommended to prevent dogs from developing problems caused by nutritional deficiencies or excess ingredients which can happen when you only use the same food all the time.  Caesar is on dry food plus some chicken and turkey which I cook.  I only use food from companies which use ingredients that are of human quality only.  I am always glad to learn about any company which provides high quality food for pets.  When I first learned about the practice of using euthanized shelter animals and farm animals to make pet food and animal feed it just made me sick!  I am familiar with the spread of mad cow disease which happened due to this sickening practice.  You would think we would have learned something from this disaster!   I am glad Evanger is committed to preventing this from never happening again.  It is definitely a highly respected company.  If it is proven that this was done by a employee I hope they prosecute them to the full extent of the law.  If it was due to the beef supplier hopefully they will be held responsible for their discussing practices.  Our pets deserve better then this!!!!!!   Louise, Caesar and Angel Murphy
