Winter had to go to the vet this morning Vote for this post

What a night if I had 2 hours sleep it is a lot. Miss Winter had diarea real bad like water. I put her in the bathroom so I could clean her. She slippend away and we had a big mess on the carpet, bed and 2 x in the kitchen Floor. I blocked her in the kitchen with a bed and water. I could not sleep and everytime I checked on her the Floor was under the poop. She had 3 baths during the night for her buttum. Poor Winter. I took some of it to the vet. She is now on antibiotics and probiotics for 2 weeks.
So far is doing well. She did not want to drink so I gave her some water. When we came back home she ran to the water bowl. She eats the same what Levi eats? Do not understand why she is sick.
Of course I could not go to service I had it plannen to go but she comes first of course.
Please pray she gets well soon I had tried rice before I went.
She had gass bad 2 days in a row?
Poor Winter.please pray she gets well soon.
Love,Yoka,Levi,Winter and Angel Moshe

Ah, poor little girl...and you! Keeping Winter in our prayers and hope she gets straightened out real soon. Didn't you say you recently changed their food? Do you think that might have had something to do with it?

Yes I did change the food the first bag is gone and we are using the bigger size bag now. Winter no longer needs her allergy pills now that I changed her food. They both love it and i cooked 6 large chicken breast in the crock pot for them. I dice it and freeze it in. I sprinkle some diced chicken breast over the food. It beats cheese.lol.i stood in the kitchen for hours.
I use the water and juices too and put a little on the kibble. They both use everything the same but for some reason Winter had gass too several days in a row. I did give them something new new dental bones. It does not bother Levi but I think it must have upset Winter. Will give them less often from now on. The vet told me that they are good bones.
Sure hope she gets well soon. Please Deb you get well too.
Love,Yoka,Levi,Winterand Angel Moshe.

Poor little lass and poor you, nothing worse when they are feeling unwell.

I give Maddie and izabella probiotics every day, just sprinkle a little on their food seems to help.

When Maddie was feeling a little off last week I mixed some slippery elm powder with water and a little honey and syringed it into her mouth. As the syringe was tiny I did it 4 times, she was not overly impressed. It really did work. It was recommended to me by a Westie breeder/owner and I double checked with my vet and he said he has a lot of owners that use it and he has no problem with me doing it. I have a feeling by the amount of feathers I saw in the yard she might have eaten a wild bird, gross!

I hope Winter is feeling better Yoka. Could it be possible she has Irritable Bowel Disease? Several Westies on one of my FB forums suffer from this. Here is something one of the owners posted about their Westie with IBD that might be helpful to you.

" It's amazing with IBD dogs, very minor changes can trigger flare ups.  He is still on the SeaCure, probiotics and digestive enzymes and the flare ups are very infrequent and a lot less violent. "

Winter's digestion might not be the same as Levi's and there may be something in the food, or lack of something, that is upsetting her tummy. I would think there would be an IBD group on the net where you could do some research.

Wishing you a good nights sleep tonight and sending healing thoughts for Winter,
hugs, Theo and Willie

Oh Yoka I will keep Winter in my prayers.  Sounds like your Vet has her on the right treatment.  Hope he can figure it out soon.  She is such a delicate little lady.  Louise, Caesar and Angel Murphy

Yoka,we send Prayers that Winter is feeling better now with her tummy, our vet says brown boiled rice is better than white and Boiled breast meat of the chicken just done in water  and fed in small portions...some tummys are more sensitive...we get over here  a dried complete meal by James Wellbeloved and it suits ours ..and good for dogs with sensitive tummys..it is hypo.allergenic...I wonder if you can get it over there..often the vets sell it.....Let us know how Winter is doing when you can...Hugs and kisses Annie and Gang xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Re: Update on Winter Vote for this post Reply to this Message Reply with a quote

Winter sure recovers fast. She is doing very well the next day her stools was a little thicker and I was able to pick it up but it was still loose. Today it was a big improvement was able to pick it up so I guess she is doing well. I think it might be from a dental bone that might be the cause of it. I gave it 3 days in a row after they eat in the evening. Have been skipping it the vet told me it be wise not to give it every day but 3 x a week.. Winter is walking well.sleeping well and eating well. She is such a trooper taking her medications.
Thanks for the tips I have organic brown rice and will check out that slippery Elm out. Never heard of it before. The vet lady does not think she has IBS. Our Moshe had that.
You will not believe it we are sitting with our sliding doors open around 9:00 AM. Sun shining too and it was wind still but now I must close the doors wind is changing. Cooler front is coming.
Thanks everyone for the tips.

I'm happy to hear that Winter is doing so much better. I can't give Willie dental chews too often as they make his poop slimy

We can't complain about the weather here, the last couple days have felt like spring and I am fighting of the urge to start gardening, today it felt like April but it is clouding over now and the weatherman is calling for snow tonight.

All the best to you, Richard, Levi and Winter and I hope your sister and her husband are doing okay, that he is healing well at home,
Theo and Willie

Our Stormies food was lot of date. Vote for this post Reply to this Message Reply with a quote

I hope she is better by now. We went through the same thing with Stormie. Once we got some meds. in her I checked the bag of food, it was out of date, somehow it had been missed when they got the new bags in and didn't send the bag back and I just happened to buy it.
So now first thing I do is check all dates on everything, our food and the girls.
Hope everyone is better and getting some sleep now.
