Hi all Vote for this post

Hi all,
have not been on here for a very long time. spend most time on facebook.
For those who remember Kelsey and Furby, they are both at the bridge. Furby in 2009 and Kelsey in 2014.
Sgelby is still with me and will be 11 in July. Abby, my cairn terrier is 7 and will be 8 in November.

i left teaching in 2014 mainly due to health reasons. plus North Carolina is not very teacher friendly these days especially to veteran teachers. If I would have stayed I would have lost out on two pay raises because I had taught over 30 years. so not fair but I have have never been happier to be out of the classroom. Way to stressful these days and when schools want veteran teachers out, they will do whatever it takes to make you feel like you are not worth anything.  My emotions took a big toll on my health and I now suffer from anxiety and depression. Take medicine for that, but I am just happy to not be teaching anymore. I couldnt retire at that time either.

Sold my house in 2015, though I miss it, mostly the fenced in yard, I am happy not to have to deal with that responsibility anymore. Shelby and Abby have adapted well to apartment life. We do a lot of walking, especially me.

I broke my right ankle badly last April. Slipped and fell off a cement block outside the entrance to my apartment/\. I was taking Shelby out and it was raining. I slipped and as I fell I could hear the snap and knew it was broken.
Neighbors heard me calling and like the commercial on TV I HAD TO TELL THEM I FELL AND CANT GET UP. They helped me and called the ambulance. I called a friend and my lovely neighbor got Shelby back in the apartment for me.
At the hospital after looking at the x-ray, they told me i needed to see an orthopedic doctor as I would need surgery. I broke it on both sides of my ankle in several places. Was laid up all summer, sold my car since I needed to pay rent and bills. I work at a local fast food place and can walk or ride my bike. It has been good since i have lost a lot of weight.

we are fine these days, so thats about it for us. It will be good to see many of our friends that we have lost touch with again.

Hi Mary what a treat hearing from you.
We sure remember Kelsey and Furby.
How terrible that you got hurt and had to sell your home. I find it disgusting that they do not appreciated you as a teacher.. it is there loss but also for the children..
Am glad they appreciate our teachers in our private school. Am sure it took a big toll on your health. So glad to read that you are doing better.
Hope you feel much better with some weight gone and no more teaching.
I only teach on Sundays at our synagogue school. Am doing fifth grade this year. And enjoying it.
I do not know if you know that we lost our Moshe last year on March 18. It is hard to believe that nearly a year has gone by. already. We still miss him daily but have now a little girl called Winter..
How wonderful that Shelby is still with you and Abby..
Great hearing from you and stay well.
Big hugs to you, Yoka,Levi,Winter and Angel Moshe at the bridge.
Take care!!!!!

Hi Mary, I am so glad to hear from you.
Been wondering how you are.
Mary i am so sad to hear you lost dear Kelsey and Furby.
On Feb. 23rd Sailor passed away unexpectedly for seemingly no reason.
I miss him dearly but I have another Westie named McGinnis who is
keeping me company.

I know from a lot of your last posts how unhappy you were teaching
so I'm not surprised you got out of there.
I am very sorry you broke your ankle and had to sell your car for money
for expenses. I can understand that as for two years I couldn't find a job
and my brother was kind enough to pay my rent for 2 years.

I am glad you recovered from the broken ankle and could go back to work.
I know how very hard it is to work in the service industry with constantly
altering work schedules and sometimes incredibly stupid requirements
that have to be met to keep your job. Like when I worked at Macy's for a year
and they set a requirement that all employees had to ask every customer
if they wanted a Macy's credit card. They required that if the customer said
No that we had to ask 3 times. Not only that but they hired mystery
shoppers to test employees if they were meeting the requirement.
Any employee who did not ask the customer 3 times was fired on the spot.
I could not work or live with such an incredibly rude requirement so I quit.

Anyway, will you get to retire soon? I hope so.
Give Shelby a hug from me and God bless you Mary

David, I took early retirement from my time in the catholic schools in Buffalo, it is a very tiny pension, not enough to live on at all. I pulled my retirement f on NC schools, it wasn't much but did give me a year or two to live on. Until I can file for social security which won't be till late 2018 I will have to work. I am constantly putting in applications.

Hello Mary, so many friends here at TC have moved over to fb but I have resisted going there after hearing so many horror stories about hacked accounts, etc. I remember Kelsey and Furby and am sad to hear that they have joined so many TC pups at Rainbow Bridge. It's heartwarming to know that you have Shelby and Abby with you.
It's funny how life has a way of making us take a good look at ourselves and figure out what's really important. It sounds like the move to an apartment took some adjustments on all your parts, but you've settled in and have a job to fill your hours. I hope you'll continue to post and let us know how all of you are doing. We're still a big supportive family here!
Love, Deb, Emmie, and Angel Kelsie

Hi Mary,

So good to hear from you.  I remember when you moved to North Carolina.  SO many of us have had changes in our lives.  I am glad you are hanging in there and I think you sound happy, so that is good.  I bred Piper in late 2012, she had her litter and I kept Bubba in 2013.  MacMan died in 2014 and I was pretty lost for a long time.  I still keep his ashes nearby.  I bred Bubba last November, and I am getting a daughter of his, she comes home in a couple of weeks.  The dogs keep us going.  I hope you stay in touch on the TC.

Hugs and best wishes to you and your babies.

Hi Mary, I can't believe it is almost a year since you broke your ankle. I remember the xrays you posted, that was a very nasty mess! I'm glad to hear it has healed and I hope it doesn't cause you a lot of discomfort now.

I've been using Facebook for a number of years now and it can certainly suck your entire day away if you let it  :(  I must admit, it took me away from the TC far too much so I have made a vow to keep in touch here with the long standing friends who have meant so much to me over the years.

Your job would be a huge difference from teaching, a lot less stressful but still keeping you in touch with the community and keeping you active mentally and physically

I am glad that Shelby and Abby are doing well. Did it take long for them to adjust to living in an apartment?  I have thought of giving up the house as I don't need all this space and it would also allow me to travel a bit more without the worries of maintenance, but it is a big scary move :)

hugs, Theo and Willie

they did well Theo. had to adjust a bit more to being on leash when we go anywhere instead of a fenced yard. But they are so friendly that we only meet friends when we walk around.

its hard to believe in 2 months it will be a year for my ankle, but it got me walking more and ive lost a lot of weight.

i love not having to take care of a house and yard, even though i miss it.
