What is in a name Vote for this post

My neighbor is Scottish. His mason brother is also Scottish and has a westie. The other day they were going to a mason thing and he met Riley. He said that it is not ok to give a highland terrier an Irish name.

Maybe we can make the world a closer place.

Love Riley the Irish Scottish Westy!!!!!!!

I chose my Westies names based on what I like not whether it's Scottish or whatever. My dog my choice !!

That's hilarious! I've never heard of such a thing. There are so many Scots and Irish traditions shared, you'd think by this time, they'd get over it! I love the name Riley and since I'm part Scots/Irish, I say hooray for you!

You got to be kidding I never heard anything like it. In the first place we would end up with a lot of the same names. Moshe and Levi are Hebrew names. I kept Winter's name because she was 5 years old.
Did not want to change it but gave her a second name Chiyya and that means 'Alive'. My Hebrew name is Rina Chiyya that means RINA is Joy and Chiyya is Alive.
She sure was that when I brought her home.
Have a great weekend.

That is crazy!  I love the name Riley.  You have all the right to name your Westie what ever you like.  I guess I am in a lot of trouble too because my little Scottish Westie is named Caesar after Caesar Augustus  the emperor of the Roman Empire.  Under his rule the Roman Empire was peaceful and prosperous and Caesar Augustus was much loved by his people.  Caesar is a wonderful name for a wonderful, intelligent, much loved Westie!!!!  It fits my Westie perfectly just like Riley fits your little Westie perfectly!!!!  Love Louise, Caesar and Angel Murphy

Riley, its ok to have that name.  I'm Scots Irish, my last name is Logan which is Scottish but my ancestors moved to Ireland from Scotland probably in the 1500s.  My grandfather many times removed moved to the US in the 1700s from Antrim, Ireland. Many people in the South are Scots Irish so you are ok.

Well Riley, I think that mason fella is just a big stuffed shirt! The Scots and the Irish moved back and forth over the centuries, mixing here and mixing there so to speak. Besides, there are differing stories of the origin of Westies, one being that they are descended from terriers from a  shipwreck on the coast of North Ireland... so there fuddy duddy mason man!!

Riley, all that matters is that you are daddies boy ;)

That's just silly for him to say that to you. Never mind his comment and silly opinion. I think the name Riley fits well for your sweet boy. Two of my pups came with names already. Maddie was the only one I had named.
