That is one interesting piece of furniture. I just love it and you were very lucky to get it. Hope you find out what it was used for.

Love Riley

ohhhh....ohhhh.....looks very much like an antique with those turned spindle columns (I have a gate leg table that belonged to my great uncle who brought it over from Scotland when he came to live in Canada and it has the same spindle columns for legs).  It looks lovely since you have cleaned it up and polished it.  What will you use it for?  I'm sorry I don't know what the previous owners would have used it for but it would be interesting to know.  Enjoy your lovely new furniture piece.

Very nice. I can't think what it's called but like a butchers block where they cut up meat or vegetable on the top.

But really I have no idea.

It looks very British! And to hazard a guess, I would think it is walnut! Very beautiful piece Annie, even with the little chip at the bottom. Could it possibly be for sheet music? I have a music cabinet, different style, but the drawers are 11 1/2" deep by 16" wide. I think Deb's idea would be closer to the truth though
