My yearly checkup Vote for this post

I am going to see my favorite vet today, exactly one year to the day after my last yearly physical. I'm sure Dr. B. will notice some changes as I am not a spring chicken anymore. (I will be 16 in July.)

So wish me luck, even though I can't hear you! I'll let you know how it goes.

Then, next on the list is my spring grooming. Mom always gets embarrassed how I look when I go in because I look like a scruffy polar bear. Hey, it's only hair.

Bark atcha later, friends!

Your pal,
Roo

UPDATE Vote for this post Reply to this Message Reply with a quote

Roo here: just back from the vet's office. How I love that place -- and especially my vet! He's known me since I was a puppy. (One guy in the waiting area that I WAS a puppy -- ha ha -- had him fooled!!!)

So here's the thing, I gained some weight over the winter, making me 20-1/2 pounds, but that's not too bad. Although I'm usually 17-19, I have hit OVER 20 a few times, usually during the winter when I am less active. But we're not worried. Once the weather gets better, it'll come off.

And, yeah, I do have arthritis in my hind quarters, but it's not too bad. All other stuff looked good and doc thinks I'll be around a while, which makes Mom happy. He told Mom, "Whatever you're doing, just keep doing it."

So not bad for a guy who is fifteen years and nine months old, wouldn't you say? I must come from some pretty good stock, plus my Mom and Dad love me and take good care of me. (I wonder if that comment will earn me a couple of extra homemade biscuits?!?!?!!?)

Mom had a check up, too! Vote for this post Reply to this Message Reply with a quote

But not at the vet's office -- ha ha! She saw her own doc as a follow up to her colonoscopy. For those of you who didn't know. She was sick with, errrr, digestive issues very badly from September thru Christmas. In late December, she and Dad found a dietary way to help her control her issues. Colonoscopy in mid-February yielded four pre-cancerous polyps, which are gone gone gone now but also, due to some biospies, discovered she has a semi-rare type of colitis. Had she not had the procedure, we would still be wondering what caused her to get and stay so sick. (She lost almost 15 pounds during the course of this.) Anyway, she is able to continue to treat this with diet and is not required to go on the drugs that were recommended. Her insides are stabilizing and she's learning to avoid foods which trigger flare-ups of her system. And -- ta da! -- she enjoyed her first meal out in a restaurant in SIX MONTHS -- and it didn't kill her! So life is pretty good.

Mom says if anyone is suffering with a digestive disease (IBS, IBD, colitis, etc.) you really might want to research what is called the LOW FODMAP DIET. It is not a quack thing -- Mom says she thinks it literally saved her life. She's been on it since late December and her symptoms have improved so much -- even her doctor was impressed.

Okay that's it for today.

 Your pal,
Roo

That's a great report Roo, keep up the good work young man.

And Cheryl, what happy news that your tummy problems are somewhat resolved. I bet that dinner out was most enjoyed and most deserved I must add.

Willie is a little polar bear right now too and going to the spa tomorrow.   I hope Roo enjoys his spa day and you will post a photo for us.

hugs, Theo and Willie

Re: My yearly checkup Vote for this post Reply to this Message Reply with a quote

Now we just have to figure out how to go away for a while in the winter and be able to take him -- without too much stress on his part. Flying is probably out. What I'd love to do is find a nice, reasonable pet-friendly place in, say, Florida or Alabama (Gulf Coast). We're not used to driving that far but I just don't know how I can stand another winter up here with no break.

A friend of mine stayed a few months in Gulf Shores, (I think) Alabama and she loved it but I don't recall if they have any pet-friendly places. Well, I have plenty of time to research it!

Today, we are having very cold (somewhat freezing) rain but it's better than the 3 to 7 inches of snow they predicted. We had about 2 inches but the rain is wiping that out, mostly. Hurry up, spring!!!!

Cheryl,

Go on VRBO.com and look for pet friendly places to stay in Gulf Shores or Orange Beach Alabama,  Also FT Morgan Alabama.  These are vacation homes that the owner rents out instead of a company.  We stay in one in Blue Mtn Beach Florida in September and we are able to take Connor with us.  You would love Gulf Shores and Orange Beach but I am prejudice.  During the winter it is very laid back and relaxing.
