Need some advice please Vote for this post

You all know that Winter had a lot of trouble with Watery stollen at times. We have brought her to the vet so many times and everytime it cost a fortune the Bill. She is ok for a while and than it came back. I have been reading lots of Holistic advice with great tips how you can help your Dog or Cat the natural way and keep them healthy. To my suprise Winter has been doing very well but this morning she jumped out the bed and decoratie the carpet in our bedroom again in several spots. I made a appointment this morning but canceled it. You all know how well Richard is doing with his colon. To my suprise Winter ate and Richard let her out and stool was watery!
I gave her a while ago some organic Kefir. It is plain no sugar in it and has 12 live active cultures. She loved it and I will bake a sweet potato and cook her some organic rice. I hope it works and I also could give her some cottage cheese but I am sticking to the Kefir 2x a day.
While reading some more info I was reading that you should never give a probiotic with antibiotic at the same time. No one told me that but Holistic Vets warn about that. Well keep your fingers crossed that it helps Winter too it would be wonderful. Am learning a lot from this Vet Magazine.
Do you think this is ok that I cancelled the appointment because so far they only helped for a while?
Please pray for Winter that she soon is doing better. I was in shock what I saw she did and better call the carpet cleaner.

Have a great day everyone!
Love,Levi,Winter and Yoka

Just finished cleaning up in the other bedroom.
My hand and wrist hurts a lot but most important is that Winter gets better.
Please pray for Winter we love her so much.

I'm afraid I know very little about holistic medicine, but I've always been told to give yogurt with antibiotics because they destroy the good bacteria in your gut and can cause the runs. I practice the same thing for myself, if I have to take antibiotics, I eat yogurt for a couple of days. Hopefully, someone here will be able to help you and I'll keep little Winter in my prayers.

We hope you can find a solution to the problem. It is always

frustrating when we can't figure how to help our little ones.

Yoka, not sure if you can get James Wellbeloved food over there for dogs, they do a dried complete food and also meat but all natural and nothing artificial,if you have a look on their site it states all the foods not in the products etc...ie beef pork wheat...The dried food is very good for sensitive tummies and Nimby has some of it and no problems at all...I hope you can get it over there....I guess trying different foods to see which suit her maybe upsets her system till you find the right one...Let us know how she is doing, she will feel so much better once her tummy and bowels are better....Big Hugs Annie and Gang xxxxxxxxxxxxx

Katy has IBS /IBD something to help cal mdigestive Tracy is slippery elm bark - I mix it with Katy's food when she has episodes. It helps soothe the colon/intestines/stomach. It needs to be mixed with a cool liquid - the pumpkin works well for that. I asked my integrative vet (she treats holistically) about the antibiotic thing with probiotics and she said it really didn't matter that much. We have stuck to antibiotic shots (when needed - not often) that bypass the tummy because of Katy's reaction to them (she would get an icky tummy). It lasts in the system for 7-10 days. Also for bland diet they say to stay away from rice as it tends to ferment in the system and cause more gas/discomfort. They recommend pumpkin and extra lean ground turkey. Hope this helps ;).

Am so glad you posted and may I ask what food do you give your Katy?
The vet gave me food but I am returning it because it has soy ,white potatoes and corn in it.
I gave Winter twice some Kefir. She loves it and it worked she had a firm stool this morning. I did notice she had blood by the rectum a little. Will try to google for a Holistic vet if there is one here. This was the same food my vet gave me to try out but I did not know what was in it..Will return the bag that was not opened today. I did notice that Winter was scratching a lot and now that I know what was in the food I understand why.
I did not know that about the rice. Thanks for the tip..
I hope to find some food for her Colon that is healthy for Winter. The breeder Nancy was giving her good food it was small kibble and had a probiotics in it. She loved it but the smalles bag you can order is 18 LBS and that is way to large.
I would appreciate if you could tell me what you are giving Katy please. The vet told me it is from the colon. Winter is now on Metronidazole. This will help her and I am trying to get good probiotics in her. She did not give me any so I guess I will give her a little Kefir every day. It sure helped my husband Richard with his problems in the colon.
Thanks so much for your post.
Take care and love to your Katy.
Have a blessed day,
Yoka,Levi and Winter

Hi Yoka!
We used the antibiotic for a UTI - never a tummy/colon issue...hasn't been on one for over a year. We buy Katy's food from a local pet deli - fresh food...I will post their site as there is a lot of good info on it. I may try kefir for Katy - she is on a good probiotic now, though. As for food issues - each dog is different. Katy does great with chicken and beef, but not great with salmon, duck, pork... etc. we had her allergy tested years ago. hope this helps a bit :). Take care!

I heard of slippery Elm before and will try to buy it. I heard you can buy it in a health food store.
Am glad I printed a lot of tips from this Dogs Naturally Magazine . It makes it easier for me to remember. Theo gave me a wonderful website they save many Westies it said: no wheat,no Corn,no soy,,no Beef,No Lamb ,No dairy for Westies..They also advised no food from the vet and they listed some too. I am quilts that I give them some cheese some times a little.
Don't worry about mistakes I make plenty too.
Have a blessed day and thanks for your help.
Yoka
