Hello, Friends! Vote for this post

I know it's been a long time since we were here. (Although we do connect with a number of TC friends on FB regularly). It's been an interesting year, starting with me turning 16 this past July. I think I am probably close to earning the title of "elder stateman" in this group! (And I showed up here as a rescue right after my first birthday, so it's been a while!)

So, I am mostly deaf, my vision is fading, my hips are shot so we really don't go for walks much anymore, but I am still here and that's something to celebrate.

Mom has had a rough year as well. She got sick last summer after a long road trip to the midwest and at the time (this time last year), the docs thought it was a stomach bug. It took five months for her to get a diagnosis (stoopid doctors!) and she has a rare type of colitis (affects only 1 in 100,000 people) and after lots of illness and tests and procedures and major dietary changes, she is feeling much better, although there really is no cure, but being strict about diet seems to help. She also went through a major depressive phase and is now on an anti-depressant. The first week, at half dose was really rough but now she's had several weeks on full dose and it seems to be helping a lot.

Mom and Dad "abandon" me three times a week. They go to a place they call the "Y" and swim in a big pool. Mom is now up to almost 3/4 of a mile each time, although there are days she can't go, but she is trying really hard. Dad just completed his 50 mile mark -- go, Dad!

We didn't go on vacation this year because Mom and Dad do not want to board me. They think my health is too fragile. And our last attempt, which was a trip to the shore for a couple of days, got cancelled because the morning we were supposed to leave, I could hardly walk at all, so they decided to stay at home with me. I would have been happy to SEE the ocean again, but I guess I really can't walk well enough, so I just have my memories of Cape Cod a few years ago to keep me happy. Dad and Mom say the only way they could do that trip would be have somebody stay here in the house with me, but we really don't have anyone in our lives who could do that.

The grandbaby, Silas, is 6 years old and now in the first grade. He is very gentle with me and I appreciate that. His Mom and Dad bought a house in a different town and they are very excited about that. They close on it this coming Tuesday. Jill (Silas' Mom) had an accident on the way to work this morning. She didn't mean to, but she hit a deer on the way to work and it really messed up her car but Silas and Jill are fine, which is all that matters.

OK, that's it for me right now. I remember all of you so fondly and all the fun we have had over the years. A lot of my friends here have gone on to the Rainbow Bridge and although I miss them, I have no plans on meeting them again soon, at least for a while. I kinda prefer being the "old man" here!

Love to you all!
Your pal ~always~

Hello Roo! We've missed hearing from you and your Mom. Although you may be the elder statesman here, you will forever be young in our eyes and we are so glad that life is treating you OK. Seems we're all getting older and have our aches and pains, but hey, it could be worse! Sounds like your Mom is doing a lot better these days and if they "abandon" you a few times a week, look at it as a good time to take an extra nap! We don't vacation--never have, so there's really nothing for us to miss! We've always preferred staying home with the pups and Emmie keeps us entertained, so no shortage of excitement with her around! We still remember some of the adventures you TC pups have had and they still bring a smile--and sometimes a tear when I think of all the times Kelsie joined in for a ride with her Roo Roo. Hang in there and tell your Mom to let us know how everyone's doing when she gets the chance. Take care and know that we think of you often and keep you in our prayers always.
Love, Deb, Emmie, and Angel Kelsie

Hi Roo

glad to hear you are still with us.  MacMan departed just over a year ago.  We were in Homer, NY last weekend for a tracking test.  Bubba was the only westie there.  He did not pass the test, but found a really ripe dead groundhog.

Anyway, I am glad your parents are doing ok, and I hope they treasure every single minute they have left with you.  I know for a fact there are never enough of those minutes.  Take care.

Roo and Cheryl, we missed you.
So good to hear from you and so glad you have made it to 16.
Though sorry to hear about all the health concerns for you, Roo
and you especially Cheryl.
I won't go anywhere that I can't take the dogs and that includes
flights or hotels that won't allow dogs.

So happy to hear from you Roo.
You are one amazing Westie. We remember the great times we had. Our Mama often look at the scrap pictures she made when you came to Florida. We remember those fun days.
Getting older is not fun but it still beats the alternatives.
Hope you stick around longer Roo because we sure love you .
Please take it easy and just treasure each day.
So glad your mom is doing better and your Dad must be in good shape too!!!!!!
Love from your friends,Levi,Winter,Angel Moshe and Yoka
