Mom and me are very grateful for all of your love and concern.

Knocking on wood -- I have not had one of those weird episodes for a few days now. Mom and Dad are learning to keep me quiet since excitement or exertion seem to bring them on. That's kinda funny because whoever heard of keeping a good terrier down?!

I haven't been out in my Roo-Mobile lately because it has been arctic cold here. Today we got up to a big old 41 degrees so far, and that is probably it.

We are planning to stay home for Thanksgiving this year. Mom is kinda sad but with close to 20 people expected at hu-brother Chris's house, PLUS four doggos and five darn cats, she thinks that would totally do me in. We wanted to go see what CHris and Jill have done to their house since they moved in but it will have to be another time. Thanks goodness I remembered to remind Mom and Dad to get a turkey!

Mom's been feeling much better so she may actually be able to eat a decent meal on Turkey Day. Last year this time she was very sick, so we are grateful for improved health for her. She says she gots something wrong with her right thumb but I don't see her slowing down much. The joint is kinda stuck. It kind of clicks into one of two positions and that is it but she says it doesn't hurt -- much. Dad says she needs to see doctor man and Mom says, later. She keeps it taped up and that is that. I think Mom is kinda terrier (stubborn)! And she says she is now swimming almost three miles a week at the Y. Pretty soon she will hit the 50 MILE point!

OK, that's all for now. Time for my (next) nap.
Love to all,
Roo

So the sticky thumb? It's a trigger finger (thumb) and will not get better in its own. I went to the medical office to have it examined and confirmed and got referred to an excellent plastic surgeon who specializes in hand injuries. The bad news is that I don't get to see him until Dec. 15. The plan is for a cortisone shot but I am hoping that if he thinks the shot won't work, he will just go ahead and do surgery.

Roo is not doing well. Two episodes this week, although the most recent was just 2 minutes. We may be making a difficult decision soon.

Oh Cheryl, you are all in my prayers. Has the vet put Roo on any kinds of meds to help him with his problem?

Right now, just the deramaxx for pain from arthritis.

One concern is that putting him through tests and/or procedures at his age is not a good idea and might actually do a lot more harm than good. Trip and I are committed to just making his time remaining as comfortable as possible. These episodes can be brought about by stress, exertion, and/ or excitement. Anything faster than a walk is just too much for him. If he gets excited to see us when we come back in the house, they can happen. If he gets playful, they can happen. It doesn't take much at all.

Right now I am trying to determine how long we will let him continue this way. My vet and I discussed it and he said I need to look at this in terms of am I keeping him alive for him, or for me? I understand that but it just hurts so much to make the decision, period. Obviously, I would love more time, but not if it means he is miserable.

Sorry, I'm rambling. I know most if not all of you have been through this. And now it's my turn. I have been told I will know when ... Or he will let me know. I just have to trust that I can do right by him.
