Melatonin Vote for this post

Has anyone tried melatonin on their westies?  If so, any side effects?  My vet recommended melatonin for Tosh to help him rest during the night.

I am giving my elderly Bichons Senior Wellness Quiet Moments calming aid which has melatonin in it.  The 12 yr old Coco is having anxiety usually at night (possibly Sundowners) or on my days off when their schedule changes.  He pants, shakes and is very restless.  If let outside while he's stressing he goes to the farthest end of the yard and won't come in unless I got get him. He has limited sight & a little cognitive decline.
The 14+ yr old Bullett has a decline in hearing & eyesight so is just beside himself & barking at any movement or sound. He also has some obsessive actions that have begun recently.  Both have settled down quite a bit over the past couple months.  I have not seen any side affects in either of them.  Coco is a picky eater but seems to enjoy these little bites.  About $5/month is not bad either.

My Vet prescribed melatonin 1000mg for my Caesar to help him sleep at night.  Sometimes he get up and runs around the house.  The melatonin works well and he sleeps like a baby.  I also give it to my Scottie Judah.  It helps him sleep all night also.  Louise, Caesar, Judah and Angel Murphy
