Grady has a tumor
After we take walks I usually go over Grady to check for stickers and on the look out for any ticks when I discovered a lump near the pit of one of his front legs. It worried me right away so took Grady off to see our Vet lady. She took a look at it and did a biopsy. I was really worried what might come back. The test confirmed it is a benign tumor called histiocytoma. Our little boy doesn't bother it and can't easily reach it so no chance of him biting at it.The Vet recommended us to remove it. We'll be going back to the Vets in 12 days to get the tumor removed along with getting his neuter done.I worry about surgeries and just hope it goes well.
Also, Grady had eight canine teeth till this morning when one dropped out thank goodness, They have been really causing him some discomfort. Now just 3 more to go and then we can worry about the molars..Ugh. Some good toys and a chew bone and he is a happy zoom crazy, bossy, cushion dragging little cairn. Please keep Grady in your thoughts Hugs Sandra & Grady xox

Re: Grady has a tumor
Poor little guy. Do they not think it could go away on it's own? I read somewhere that they can.

Re: Grady's tumor Diana
Here's a better pic how close the tumor growth is to the front right leg and his chest.Rubbing happens when he walks. Hoping that growth doesn't get too much bigger. Can also see those four canine teeth on the bottom, two baby and two adult teeth. He loves chewing away at this bone.

Re: Grady's tumor Diana
Fair enough if it interferes with his walking or irritates him and gets bigger then it would require more stitches than removing it while it is small. Great he's so good with bones. Our Border Collie developed a fatty lump under her front leg and it had to be removed she was older as it affected her gait.

Re: Grady has a tumor
Yes Diana sometimes these tumors can dry and shrink and fall off and others need to be surgically removed. He's got an appointment coming up and the Vet will be taking another look at it but has already advised us she would like to remove it. Where the tumor is located if it grows more which is likely it can rub as he walks so I think we are making the right decision for Grady.

Re: Grady has a tumor
Poor Grady, at least you caught it early Sandra and you know it's benign. We'll keep little Grady in our thoughts and prayers and before you know it, he'll be done with his surgeries and back home where he can get all the care in the world! I know you'll worry till it's all over but have faith that everything will go smoothly.Love, Deb, Emmie, and Angel Kelsie

Re: Grady has a tumor
My girl Allie had one of those things. They snipped it off and she's been fine ever since.
I know it's a bit scary when they need to go under anesthesia, but fortunately this isn't cancerous and should be a full recovery. :)

Re: Patti Allie and Emmett
I'm sorry your Allie had one of these too. Good to hear that she had no problem with getting it removed and she is just fine and doing well. Grady's growth has gotten bigger in the last three days so I will be glad to see it taken off next week.Is Emmett a new little westie in your family? I love his name.So sweet that Allie has a little brother to play with.
