Obsessed with Chewing Vote for this post

A Cairns cuteness is pretty often matched with a cairn's destructive ability. Grady has a stock pile of chew bones and chew toys but he still goes after the furniture like the legs of chairs, the sofa legs,my china cabinet, carpet, and don't dare to leave the room with anything on the tables like tissue books and even caught him take licks right out of my coffee cup I left on the table..Oh and he was lapping it up.little scamp.Have to keep an eagle eye open all the time.
I've tried the bitter apple and he likes it, doesn't stop him one second.I'm on vigilant watch matched with chasing him off things. I know that this puppy chewing stage even at age 1 now will come to an end sooner or later. For now I am getting more gray hairs.LOL

Anyone have some helpful suggestions ?

Just last week Gradys new thing to do is to grab forbidden items and run away hiding with them under the sofa hoping no one will see him .He squeezes under the sofa (just barely) and under tables and the bed in a frantic effort to chew it up.
He'll give me that mischievous look and be off for a chase.Working on that drop it command but when he has a forbidden prize in his mouth nothing can take it's place..Not even the tastiest treat... oh yes I bribe him.
Oh and notice the Grady handy work chewed up sofa leg in the picture. UGH!
The cuteness factor of Grady makes up for his devilish side.

Oh dear....Believe me, it isn't just a Cairn thing! When Emmie (and before her, Kelsie) was little, they chewed everything! Kelsie destroyed 2 of my dining room chairs--chewed almost completely through the rungs.....Emmie wasn't much better. Like you, we tried the Bitter Apple and they loved it! Next, someone told us to try Tabasco Sauce. You guessed it, they loved that too! Thankfully, they both stopped chewing before we ran out of furniture! LOL Oh, and Emmie loves lattes--can't let any cup sit on the coffee table....(Our new kitten is the same way--loves coffee!)
Hopefully someone else here will have a solution that will help!
Love, Deb, Emmie, and Angel Kelsie

Your right Deb, westies like to chew as well. Maddie was a handful as a puppy and into her adult years to age 4.  LOL oh never thought of hot sauce.

I repaired my china cabinet corner three times sanding, putty and painting it. Now It's repair and I'm not taking any chances .It has a cardboard cover over the corner of passed injury.  You should see the look Grady gives that cardboard.

Luckily Sandra Biba has been good with the furniture  and has calmed a little with toy chewing...she can sometimes attempt to chew tassles off some cotton rugs I have down to save muddy paw prints on the carpets! but her latest craze is digging outside on walks and in the woods..she does cat leaps trying to get mice and voles and then digs frantically with mud flying everywhere..she will pull the tufts and try to pull roots out at the same time...not sure how you stop Grady on the furniture legs...coffee and tea cup drinks  I think they all love to get into..even if I have a cup of water and put it down...it gets slurped up!!LOL!...does he like big cardboard boxes to play with?Biba likes those for amusement also sometimes....we have given POW for the second picture and ..the innocent look on Grady's face!!
Hugs and kisses Annie Biba and Andrew xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
