Exocrine Pancreatic Insufficiency Vote for this post

Has anyone ever had experienced their Westie or Terrier with a condition called Exocrine Pancreatic Insufficiency?
And is it possible to be hereditary.
Someone I know has a four year old Westie and it is losing weight and eating very well, drinking a great deal and a big lethargic but playful. They took him to a Vet and all they do is blood work and also an ultrasound.

I wonder if anyone has experienced this with their Westie or knows anything about it. Thanks you so much. (Helping a friend who spent big bucks with little news)

Hmm, not familiar with Exocrine Pancreatic Insufficiency but the symptoms sound an awful like those of diabetes. I think maybe I'd try and get a 2nd opinion if I were your friend. Sending prayers for the little one.

Sorry we are no help here and not had to deal with that in any of ours,I wonder as Deb says try get a second opinion or even to go to a Animal holistic person...maybe they will be able to help in a natural sort of way...we hope she finds out more and let us know when you know more..

Can't say we've heard of it either.

Yes I have heard of it, on the Col. Potter list. Unfortunately Yahoo groups shut down and they didn't back up the messages. I can find out if anyone has mentioned it since the migration and who to contact. Maybe some kind of Facebook group or online group will pop up if you Google it?

My Cairn Terrier had that.  I was told to add Panacare powder to her food and let it sit for 20 minutes.  It predigests the food, you have to use canned. A friend's westie also had it and they gave her a pill 20 minutes before they fed her.  Ask your Vet for it.  Be insistant and get something ASAP

Yes, EPI dogs need enzymes. I also read they need to be held up or sit upright to digest the enzymes in their food. There's a HUGE Facebook group to get dogs tested for EPI.

That's all I can get from Col. Potter right now.
