Oh my, we went through this with Emmie not too long ago. She came in from her walk and her butt was covered in blood...one of her anal glands had become infected and burst! It was quite painful and she wouldn't let us touch her back there! We got her into the vet as soon as possible and it took a couple of weeks to heal. Please let us know how he's doing.

update on presley,  back from the vet, the poor little guy, had impacted anal sacs and they were infected. the vet put him on predisone and an antibiotic for ten days, and then he will go back to be checked.

this is the first time in having westies that I have had to deal with this, it was so scary to see the blood on his but.  I kinda had hunch that it was anal sacs.

he is so worn out, he is now on is bed sound asleep

thanks all

So glad you got him in to the vet Sandi! Emmie was on antibiotics for 10 days too and we ended up putting Neosporin on a small area that didn't want to heal up. Emmie is our 3rd Westie and we've never had this problem with any of them! She goes back to the Vet for her yearly check up the beginning of February and will have her check her out thoroughly to make sure this isn't going to be an ongoing problem. Give Presley a big hug from Emmie and me and tell him we know just how he feels!

My Cooper had two instances of ruptured Anal glands.  After the second, once a month he went to the Vet for a Vet Tech visit and  an expression.  All was then fine after that.  For me it was $25.00 a visit and every 4th one was free.

I hope Presley is doing well.  Poor guy!
