Had to go to the Vet Hospital
Yesterday we took Grady out to play fetch and give him exercise in the backyard. Just before we were ready to go in Grady does some fast sprints and manic darts he picked up a small rock. I tried to recall, didn't work. Quickly tried to get to him as he was chewing at the rock in his mouth. Little stinker darted with his back to me running off and I see no rock when I caught up to him. Not seeing if he swallowed the rock I thought I should get him checked out.Called our Vet but she was out so had to drive to the next town to the Vet hospital. Grady got exam and xrays. The Vet said no rock was visible but also his stomach and intestines were full so just to be safe keep watch in case he shows any signs of disstress last night and today. So far today he seems to be doing fine. Eating and drinking well and back to his jumpy frisky self.I'm relieved he seems to be in the clear.
Hugs Sandra & Master Gradyxox

Re: Had to go to the Vet Hospital
Deb just like Emmie we too watch Grady like a hawk. Grady never goes outside without us very watchful. Even inside always making sure he doesn't pick up anything that can harm him. He has never grabbed a rock before but yesterday he was in one of those frisky whirlwind zooms biting at grass , kicking his back legs up like a donkey...which is comical but we knew he was being very defiant , especially teasing with excitable play. Lucky for us it seems he must of drop the rock. It could have been a very serious issue if he had swallowed a rock. Hope we never have another rerun of this event.

Re: Had to go to the Vet Hospital
Grady, you little rat ... rocks are NOT doggie treats! These terriers are so quick to grab anything, it's a constant battle of wills.
Emmy once snatched a full chicken leg bone off my plate and that was a trip to the vet. We fed her bits of bread for 1 1/2 days and it eventually came out in pieces. Luckily she had no signs of distress.
Then last month she snatched a plastic packet of hot sauce from the refrigerator (she is FAST) and swallowed it whole before we could act. Two days later the packet came out empty, so I bet she had a little heartburn from THAT rash act.

Re: Had to go to the Vet Hospital
Yes exactly a battle of will. He looked at me to say why should I give it up as he took off in hyper drive speed. Puppyhood was a surprise around every corner. He was always putting something in his mouth...I could feel my gray hair growing in. Now that is frightening about the chicken bone.Very good that the bread worked and Emmy was ok . Oh sorry the PC pack of hot sauce made me laugh LOL Poor girl...she might never go for another next time.

Re: Had to go to the Vet Hospital
Goodness Annie, I know you have had some concerning events with Biba and that peach stone she needed removed..so relieved she is well after her surgery. It's a worry these little cairns are so quick we are lucky if we can get something away from them once it's in their mouth.

Re: Had to go to the Vet Hospital
Oh no! I'm glad he's OK and back to normal. We never had problems with Mischief. She could eat anything and be fine LOL! My brother has a big dog- a Blue Heeler Mix (Blue Heeler/Shepherd/ Labraheeler/Shepherd/Border Collie? All-American!) and she can reach the counters! She once ate a whole cake that was cooling on the back of the stove. She LOVES carbs! She's been known to steal sticks of butter and bury them in the house plants while her people are away. Whenever she comes over, I have to make sure everything in the kitchen it put away and the cupboards shut tight. When my brother's friends brought their mini bull terrier over, I terrier proofed the house and gave the little stinker a talking to. "I'm fluent in terrier. I know what you're thinking before you think it so don't even think it!"
Blue Heelers don't speak terrier so my fur niece Rupee is a little harder to understand.

So glad he is OK. Izzy was my pebble and rock chewer even swallowed a couple found them in her poop little monkey. Had to spend an afternoon picking up all the loose pebbles near the path as she just wouldn't leave them alone.
