Thanks for asking, she is still on the antibiotics but not sure for how much longer. They want me to use Nexgard or Bravecto on her for 3 months (something I am very against as essentially is IS poision). My girls have never had a flea and I seriously doubt she has mites in her paws. I feel they are grasping at straws and really have no idea how to treat her. When I asked if there was another way to treat her paws they rambled on and on so I replied (haven't heard back yet) that I am not happy about having to use something just in case she might have mites that surely there must be a way of testing without subjecting her to toxic substances. I also said (I wasn't rude) that if after this 2nd round of vaccine I cannot see a marked improvement in her we won't be continuing on. The idea of the allergy vaccine was for her to be off medication but it's getting ridiculous not only is she almost constantly on the medication but the allergy vaccine and they won't even discuss diet. I've tried pointing out that surely the diet she is on could in part be why she is having such a struggle with her skin but all I constantly hear from them is 'we are concentrating on her skin'. I did point out that it has been more than 6 months since they first said that so that excuse doesn't work for me now. Matilda around 12 months ago had issues with her pancreas and the ultrasound showed it was slighly enlarged so I was to feed her diet of chicken and rice after about 3 months I said to them I cannot keep her on a diet of chicken and rice but they repeated 'we are concentrating on her skin' so I just added veggies bit by bit to extend her meal and added a few other things. But surely if her gut is in some kind of distress this would reflect in her general health and skin. I have a feeling we will be parting ways with the dermatology group before we even reach the 12 month mark.

Diana, thank your for the update on Maddie, the poor little girl.  I understand why you don't want to use the flea stuff. it is not good for them. I don't blame you for wanting to change vets.  They really don't seem to know how to help her.

will be keeping her in thoughts and prayers.

god bless her.

Every vet we have tried has no idea what to try next which is why I relented and took her to the dermatologist who said we have plenty of ideas but I think the time will come when we just drop them and deal only with the vet. Having her on antibiotics and antifungal medication I can do that thru any vet, it's only the vaccine that has be thru the dermatologist but if it's not helping her then there is no point in it. It may be just the case of treating her the best we can thru the help of the vet seeing an internal medicine specialist to sort out what is going on with her tummy issues in the hope that by improving her gut that helps with the skin issues. She is definitely an enivronmental skin allergy Westie we have the test results to prove it. At the end of the day as much as I hate to say it quality of life is more important than quantity and it may be the case of just trying to manage her condition until it becomes too much for her then doing the kind thing. Something I don't ever want to have to do but I would never let her suffer. I adore this little dog and it really breaks my heart that there doesn't seem to be anything they can do to help her. She is only just 8.

Bless her heart, it looks like the vets are stumped and throwing ideas out just to say they're doing something. Are there any other vets in your area who you could turn to? It's so frustrating when they won't admit they don't know the answer to the problem...Sending healing thoughts and prayers out to your wee girls.

It isn't the vet who seems to be the main issue at the moment it is the dermatologist. I've tried a few different vets in the past couple of years and most have no clue how to treat dogs with skin allergies. Matilda's issues are compounded by her tummy issues which makes it very hard to medicate her when she is so super sensitive. Our vet (we've been with them for 3 years I think) is very understanding of what I will and won't do when it comes to the girls. I don't vaccinate them any more (was advised not to due to their skin issues), no flea treatment, only worm twice a year (I've been using natural remedies instead) and just being careful not to expose them to household chemicals etc which I've never really done as I am super allergic to most things so I prefer to steam mop the floors etc.

Lots of healing prayers for Maddie to get well again soon and thinking of you Diana,it would be good to get a second opinion somehow  from somewhere or someone else vet and dermatologist wise.
