What to do, what to do..... Vote for this post

Emmie has a collection of small duckies but there is one in particular that she goes to when she wants to play fetch. She's had it for years and it's been disintegrating before our eyes. I think she likes it the best because it's softer than the rest and that's probably why it's now been "loved to death" and is falling apart. This morning she went to the groomers and when I was sweeping, I found the duck, reduced to basically two pieces held together by a single strip. I showed my hubby and he agreed it was finally time for it to disappear, so I put it in the trash. I feel horrible because she's going around hunting it. We've tried getting her interested in other ducks and I even bought a small goldfish that she could easily play with if she would just give it a try. Now, I am reaching out to other terrier "parents" and asking for your advice on what to do. I feel like such a bad mother...
Love, Deb (Emmie Sue's Mom)

Oh Deb,I feel your heartache on this one,I still have a very old soft Snakey that Eric loved, also a couple of softies that Emma the collie loved,Nimby's bunny in a very sad state of repair went to Rainbow with her...Drew has a hedgie he has since we rescued him and  that he loves above all else and  has been sewn many times  to repair it,Biba has her favorite ratty which is a bettered thing but she loves that and he has to come to beddie with us and she gets him off the bed each morning...if we go away overnight these two toys have to come with us...I remember Nimbys old bunny and it just had to go in the end as it was falling apart and been sewn so many times, and she had the same as a replacement but I feel she never really felt the same as she did about the first one...I wished I had sewn or made parts of the body join up with other scrap material though..I guess its like a favorite old Cardigan or slippers to us !LOL.
Has the Duckie certainly gone I wonder  and taken away...I know what you mean ..how they look for them,If I see Bibsy looking for ratty its on the hunt I have to go..under the bed mostly!..she has to sleep with it by her side.and Drews hedgie is always in the sitting room where he can see  and snuffle it.
if the toy has gone can you get the same one again and put it in her bed and get her scents on it again I wonder...we will look for updates and know I am thinking of you!! and Sweet EmmieSue...if it ever came from us let me know and we can look for another .
Hugs and Kisses Annie Bibsy and Drew xxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Annie, thankfully, the duckie was more of a plaything that we used to play fetch. Emmie has two stuffies who are her "babies"...a praying lamb that she licks and uses as a pillow when she's watching TV or needs a "friend". I just bought a spare one of them so I have one she can use when the other one is in the wash. She also has a small puppy that never leaves her crate. She's had it since she was a tiny baby and she sleeps with it every night. Like I said, she has several small duckies and a small goldfish that we are going to try and substitute for her old duckie. Wish us luck! All of our babies have had their fav stuffed toy. Jaimie's was a stuffed bunny and Kelsie had another stuffed bunny. When they went to RB, both girls took their "babies" with them. Just writing about it brings tears to my eyes so I'll sign off for now. Take care and tell Bibs and Drew that Emmie sends smoochies to them both.

Mean Mommy and Daddy.

She will just have to deal with it.

We know the feeling. You feel so bad but what else could you do.

Love Riley and Allen.

Deb I know just how you feel. So sad for Emmie knowing the little duck had to go. It's happened with our pups too that a beloved toy had to be sent to the bin holding out for as long as possible doing several stitch repairs because we couldn't find an identical replacement. A fetch toy can be even harder to replace. Those sad eyes and watching our little sweeties roam without finding their fave toy is heartbreaking. I can only suggust to try other toys and somehow make the presentation very special in someway. Sending sweet Emmie our ((hugs))

Well, we're making a bit of progress on finding a replacement for the beloved Ducky toy. This week, I've been working with Emmie, trying to get her to play fetch with the little Goldfish I bought. She's showing a bit of interest but it just isn't her Duck...Fingers crossed we'll get there!
