Vet Response

Well, mixed reaction really. He swears by Rimadyl. I swear against it....I've asked that he use Metacam that worked before for Sparky and he's going to do that.
A fair point he made is that if I look up any drug on the internet I'd find bad press about it.
I then said that if he was really happier to use it and he could guarantee she'd have no problems, then to go ahead, but he chose to go with what I've asked....

Re: Vet Response Reply to this Message

Lynda, When Daisy had her hurt shoulder, our vet told me much the same thing. He said any drugs have some side effects, but Rimadyl was reasonably safe, He said he had never seen a reaction in a small dog, that mostly it seemed to effect Lab type dogs. He readily let me try the Aspirin first, but said that He would feel very comfortable giving it to Daisy. He gave me the same reasoning about the internet, and said for every reaction, it helps thousands of dogs. We will be thinking of Sparky, and you.

At least he's open to your side and listening. Sparky will be in our thoughts and prayers Friday, and for you and Rio,she'll be wondering where her sister is.

Re: Vet Response Reply to this Message

Lynda,
Wanted to let you know that you and Sparky are in our thoughts and prayers. I really think it was best to have both done at the same time. Why risk the chance that something could happen with a second surgery. Babe will not have her teeth cleaned again. It was too hard on her last time and she had trouble coming around. But she was 12 years old, too.
We'll be thinking of you!!!

Re: Vet Response Reply to this Message

My dog that had the violent response to Rimadyl that almost killed him was a Norfolk Terrier- hardly a big breed dog! Having lived through the experience of what this drug can do first hand - not from the internet - I personally would never, ever use it again on any dog of mine!!!!!

Re: Vet Response Reply to this Message

I agree with you Lynda, I think rimadyl is very bad. Remember the vets often get bonuses for promoting big company products like rimadyl. Oscar went on a very short course when he first tore his knee ligaments but after i read into in I would never do it again, I think it may be too risky. Our uni vet know has oscar on human arthi-ease tablets and he is doing great. It contains shark cartalige and chondrotin, you need to take it for about 3 months for it to really kick in. Even Metacam is dangerous. It is a very had choice though.

I'd seen it but thankyou, John. Luckily, she hasn't got it. She has the Metacam she had before which worked a treat.
