Ears cut !?!?!
There is a 11 year old westie in my neighbourhood whose owner cut his ears years ago because he thought the dog was going to be nicer. The ears are still there, but they are like pit bull's ears, very little. I think this is not usual in westies (in fact i thik this is insane!). Am i right?

I think any 'docking' (ears or tail) just for looks is terrible. The dogs don't care if they are 'standard' or not. I've never heard of mutalating a Westie's ears before.
Kay - who doesn't even have her ears pierced!

Well, ok, #1, the westie breed has never had cropped ears, and they look much better with their perky little ears as they are. #2, veterinarians do not crop dogs ears unless they are under 2 days old, so this guy must have cropped them himself, which is not only dangerous and cruel, but also illegal in most states. Does your state have an animal cruelty law? Animal cruelty is a felony in most states. This is also terribly sad for the helpless westie who doesn't have any ears and will have painful ears for quite some time...:-( I think you should take action. Does this guy seem to abuse his dog in any other way? He obviously had no reason to chop of his dog's ears, this is no doubt animal cruelty.

Well we don't like his ears either Valle, Care to cut them for us? I was told by Daisy and Sissys' breeder that NOTHING was to be was to be cut on Westie puppies...They all three have dew claws, hard to cut, but that's ok. That man is sick!!!

What does that mean--the dog was going to be nicer? I think the guy should get his ears cut for doing that.
I think they do that sometimes to pit bull's ears for fighting--less to grab on to (YUCK)!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! At least that is what they said on an Animal Precinct I saw---disgusting, huh?

I have to say that I wish one day someone cuts his ears off...or worse,the dogs are born the way they are and thats it..no tampering or cutting.
