KCS - Dry eye

Do any of you guys have KCS out there? My mommy says its what I have. She says its because I cry too much, like when they go in the store and have to leave me in the car, I always cry lots. My doc gave me cyclosporine and artificial tears and says I should keep on using them for a long time. I don't like the drops very much but mommy gives me 'mommy kisses' on my eyes both before and after so that makes me feel better.

Mommy says I'm very lucky to have all these new friends to talk to. I'm so excited!

It's not something we've come across, Nana. Hope it heals properly very soon.

I had to look it up to see what it was. Check out this article. It's something you'll want to stay on top of to save Nana's vision. They list Westies as common breeds for this ailment. Sorry your Nana is bothered by it.

One of my best friends has a Great Dane with dry eye. His owners before my friend didn't take care of him and his eyes turned very infected, and now he is parcially blind. My friend give him cyclosporine and artificial tears too and now he is MUCH BETTER. If you take care of Nana's eyes everyday everything will be OK, don't worry.
Love from Spain.

Poor thing hope it gets better real soon.... but my main concern is that you are leaving your baby in the car ! A short amount of time in a car even with the window slightly open or a water bowl can kill your dog - as i said sorry don't mean to sound nasty but it is some thing that really bothers me. And yes I will get off my soap box now

Okay, I thought when I was typing that someone would say something about that. We don't take her anywhere in the summer or if it's at all hot. Believe me, I wouldn't do that to her. But she goes most places when the temperature is low, ie fall or spring.

Hi! KCS is unpleasant, and dogs can lose an eye if untreated, and its NOTHING if you treat it every day.

Rusty, my old cairn mix had it and after 3 years, could go to once a day treatment. In the final months before he died, he actually got over it, but I understand this is rare.

There is a surgery to transpose the duct of the parotid salivary gland to the eye, then the eye stays wet and doesn/t need treatment. The dog does "cry" when it sees food though. A board certified opthalmologist and/or surgeon can do the operation. I didn't have Rusty done due to his age and many other health problems when I got him. It was never a problem to treat him, and when I was away, every pet sitter I ever had was able to do him.

Thanks for the info. Nana is doing much better. And we give her about 4 drops a day of the cyclo and the tears as needed, usually about twice a day too. The doctor mentioned that surgery but I'm going to do my best to avoid that, only because I would worry about her so much in surgery. Also, we would have to go to another province for that.
