Potty training
I just got a 12 week old Westie, how long does it take to housebreak? We are at a 2:1 ratio, 2 in the house and 1 outside. Any advice?

Re: Potty training
Take him out when he wakes up, after he eats, after playtime. Praise him after he goes outside. Be patient, because with a Westie it can take a very long time..Months. If you catch him going inside, pick him up and tell him pee pee or poopy outside, and take him out. If you don't catch him say nothing and clean it up. You will soon learn his signals, lots of praise and even a small treat will help. xxxBetty and the Girlies...

Re: Potty training
One of mine took almost 18 months-the other around two.....so they vary....just be very patient. At least some's already going outside which is great !! XXX.

Re: Potty training
Patience, patience, patience. My Rosie is 9 1/2 months old and still goes in the house (but now more outside). Just the past few days she is now giving us a sign that she needs to go outside so she is finally getting it. Some catch on quicker then others. Lost of praise when they go outside. Good luck!

Re: Potty training
I went to that site you suggested and I think it will help. I may be leaving my little boy in his crate too long. I misunderstood some other things I have read about crate training. Thank you and everyone that answered.

Re: Potty training
AHHHHHHHHH welcome and do you have a mop! LOL! Time schedule regular visits outside, encourage first business then play outside so then she'll want to go outside, patience love and understanding. Also cue words like peepeepoopee or buisness. And finally PRAISE PRAISE PRAISE!
