Do you Strip?
My Westie, Jasmine, is only 4 months old. We're wondering about taking care of her coat. I have taken her to a local groomer who has started forming her Westie cut. I see all the cute doggies on this site and am wondering do most people have their Westies cut or stripped? I don't understand which is the best. Help me out please. Merry Christmas from Jazzy and Me.

I've always had the Minkies clipped but I choose to keep their coats very short.

Max gets stripped (my husband cracks up every time I tell Max we're going to see the stripper LOL). The first time he had it done, I thought he looked so pathetic! It really is a process though, and when I picked him up from getting stripped on Friday I couldn't believe what a gentleman he looks like now.

Absolutely strip. The hard coat is wonderful, and the only way to get it and keep it is to strip. Its also a great stress reliever for both me and the dogs, while, e.g. waiting for our agility run.

Poor Frankie came into a cairn home.. so we strip here.. its very calming pulling out dead hair...
If you dont want to strip..you can get a Mars tool and it partially strips and partially cuts.. Most dogs seem to like it. The Mars tool.. and other grooming supplies are available at Col Potters Mall

My 2 have the skirts but are clipped. I have not found a groomer here that strips them. One said she thought it was cruel, another said too time consuming.

Michelle, the Minkies' groomer says the same thing, Diana. She's stopped doing it as it takes far too long and there's no money in it anymore.

Is it possible to use the Mars King and not hand strip? I just cannot get myself to pull hair out of my girls. The only time I used the Mars strip tool, my cairn loved it! And she looked wonderful afterwards.
