Are Peanuts bad for dogs/Cairns/Westies?

It's officially hiking season, which (in our household) means nuts, berries and granola - by he bag-full.

My mom spotted me scarfing nuts from the floor - as dad is a messy snacker...is this bad for me??

Thanks, b.

I don't think so as long as he's not eating hundreds of them.

Dear Bauer, we live in a walnut orchard, in the fall we bring them in the house and crunch up the shells in moms bed and eat the nuts. Its fun! But we do get a little fatter....

macman, tracee, duncan, elijah, and argyle (blackies not allowed on the bed, hes too big an he hogs all the covers)

I remember seeing peanuts on a list of foods that weren't good for dogs, but I don't know why they were on the list??? Dexter quite often gets ahold of peanuts and eats them, shell and all, as I throw them up to the roof of my shed for the jays. Some of the nuts don't hit their mark, and Dexter goes after them like a shot. So, even though I've heard that they aren't good for dogs, Dexter hasn't had any adverse reaction to them. (He even ate a bag of beer nuts left out on a coffee table, and they didn't seem to bother him)

I have heard that peanuts are toxic to dogs. but I have always given peanuts to other dogs we had years ago with no bad reactions.
and R gang gets peanut butter so I cant see anything wrong, unless like Lynda says, they eat hundreds.

R gang loves my granola cereal. I give them bits of it.

Peanuts and peanut butter are very often contaminated with aflatoxin, produced the the mold Aspergillus flavus. Problems have been documented in livestock and poultry, usu. after eating contaminated corn. It is not advised to feed peanuts to parrots as they are very sensitive. My feeling is, if I can eat them, the dogs can = but we are ALL too fat, so we don't.
