Maxwell much better

Maxwell had another bad spell of CMO this week.(2nd time in June) His x-rays revealed that his jaw is a mess (poor baby). The vet put him on Metacam last night, and by today he was bouncing, playing in the park, and being his old self. We are thrilled! I'll give it to him for July, and see is I can prevent these frequent occurances. Too scared of steroids and Rimydl - but this seems to be working well (and instantly) I'll keep you posted.

I'm glad to hear the Metacam is working to give Maxwell relief. What dosage are you giving? If you can lessen it and it still helps Maxwell, I recommend doing it.

My Max was on it for arthritis and it does work well but should not be used for any extended period of time as it is very hard on their renal system. My vet recommended 7 drops per day but 3 was all he needed.

hugs and best wishes to Maxwell,

Thanks for your response. The teeniest dose of Metacam is working for Maxwell. I just give him 5 drops on the day that he is feverish and sleepy, which always preceeded these week-long CMO pain bouts, and somehow CMO inflammation and pain around his jaw do not materialize. Although the vet recommended 8 drops every day, pain or not, I am having all these good days with just
giving him 5 drops when he needs it. Keep your paws crossed that this continues to work.

I'm so glad you are using your own judgement. You know when he is in pain and when to use it. My Max has been gone for three years and I still feel guilty for following the vet's instructions as he passed away with renal failure (at age 15 though). When using it for Sara's arthritis I found it wasn't necessary to maintain a high dosage.

Wishing you and Maxwell a long happy future together,
Hugs Theo and casey XOX
