Two Questions

I have two westies: a girl age 9 and a boy age 6. Both of them get what I call "tummy growlies". It usually lasts 1-2 days and they don't want to eat when it happens. They don't get it at the same time. Their tummies make loud growling sounds and they don't want to eat, however they continue to have normal stools. I have both of them on IVD Potato & Duck Dry Dog Food, and they get cheese as snacks. I try to keep the human food to a minimum, but hubby sneaks it to them occasionally. Does anyone else have this with their Westies? What can I do?

Also, my boy will lick at his nose for long periods. Does anyone know anything about this?

Rio tends to get this but she often regresses to poop eating and I think the two are tied in..Sparks rarely has it. It helps to give them a handful of biscuits or something before bed each night so they don't have empty bellies.
Someone else posted before about the licking thing but I can't remember the answer...sorry.

Duffy has this frequently. His tummy makes awful noises, he goes off his food for a day and sometimes throws up a little, but never any diarrhea. With one exception after dining on a piece of fried chicken skin, he always better by dinner. (His father was to blame for this little incident) The nausea never seems to effect his activity level so I don't worry too much about it. He's a healthy boy. Everyone says westies have sensitive tummies.

Kenzie is the same and it is normally once every 3 weeks or so and she worries me sick. Lasts all day but normally by the evening she has righted herself. She can be quite pathetic and shakes and just wants cuddles all the time. Would love to see a good answer to this one!

Jolly also does this every so often. I call it "rumbly in the tumbly". She doesn't eat, and usually does have diarrhea, but only one time of really runny poop. By evening, she is usually ok. But, she never really feels sick or acts lethargic, so I don't worry about it like I used to. If it would last more than a day or two, I would call the Vet, but like I said, she's usually fine by evening or the next morning, at the latest.

I ask my vet about this nose licking and was told they do this when they get heart burn.
Like Lynda said maybe a cookie would help, if not I would call the vet and ask what you could give him.

Tessie was also prone to the tummy troubles...the Vet said it was okay to give her a TUMS, and it worked! She also would take a piece of soda cracker, then after a few minutes would eat her meal too.

Hi: When we had our female Westie, she had these problems off and on. Finally went to a new vet and she did bloodwork and her liver and enzymes (pancreatic) were elevated. She was put on a low fat diet with only fruits or veggies for snacks and she never really had problems after that. Zips Mom
