grooming Cairns Vote for this post

Roxy and I are living in eastern Iceland in a town that had 750 people before the construction project that my husband is working on began. Needless to say there are no groomers here let alone groomers that can hand-strip a terrier. So that leaves me.

I have set up a grooming table in my garage. I have a stripping tool that sort of has curved teeth on the working end. I use this to thin out the main body. I also use my fingers with rubber ends on them to give me a grip and then just comb and pull around the head, legs and tail.

I do a bit every week, working on the head one week, the hind end another, the legs another and so on so that it is not too big of a job at any one time. I could use any hints that anyone might have. For example, when I am working on the ears is there anything I should be careful of? (I have kind of avoided the ears because the hair seems to be more firmly attached there and I am afraid of damaging something there.)

Sounds like you're coping well and doing a good job. I used to shear the Minkies myself. I'd scissor around their ears but I'm very cack-handed and cut Sparky's ear one time...I gave up after that !!

I have no tips really Karen with the three cairns,I have always just kept mine tidied up a little,we have always kept their coats fairly long as we lived on the moorland and in rural areas,we are in a village in UK now but always out in all weathers so they are still kept long really,I just tidy up a bit round their eyes and eras and feet .You sound to be doing Roxy very well.Love and kisses xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
