Puppy digestive problems
Hi everyone
Have been having problems with Oscar's digestion. He had diarrhea for which the vet gave him antibiotics and then a week later he vomited all day and was given more tablets. Both times we were given Royal Canin Sensitivity Control food. After 4 days on just RCSC I've just started mixing his normal food (James Well Beloved Dry Puppy Food) in with it yesterday and now his poo seems to be getting runny again.
Does anyone know if it's OK to keep a puppy on RCSC long term as it says adult food on the can? He is 4 months old.

Sounds like a food allergy - make sure there is no wheat, corn or soy in the food --- then know that proteins like chicken and beef very often cause food allergies. Try lamb and rice, or an "exotic" protein such as venison or salmon - Katy started out on Royal Canin and then we switched to multiple other foods before we found one that works for her (Nature's Variety Venison and Millet) -

Our Gracie Lou had a senitive stomach and we had her on Hill's ID. You can get this from your vet.

Tried Hills before the JWB - didn't get on with this either!
I met a lady with a really lovely Westie out on our walk today and she recommended giving him fresh chicken with rice as this is what she has always fed hers on. How would I know how much to feed him though?

I have had to feed this sometimes, (ixcept I have to use beef) I gave them three, fourths of a cup.
But didn't keep them on this because they don't get all the vitiamins they need.
Try the rice and chicken to see if this helps but add vitiamins to be safe.

Our 2 year old Zoe has had a sensitive stomach all her life, problems with diahrrea and vomiting yellow bile. I tried a number of different foods and nothing agreed with her. At the advice of Katy's Mommy (who posted above) and other friends here, we switched Zoe & her Cairn Terrier brother Tucker over to Natures's Variety Prairie New Zealand Venison Meal & Millet. It has worked wonders for Zoe's tummy -- no more runny poo and no more throwing up. Sounds like there may be something in the James Well Beloved that Oscar's tummy can't tolerate. As far as how long you can give him the RCSC, your vet should be able let you know. Paws crossed that you find the answers for Oscar. I know firsthand how frustrating this kind of problem can be.

Our Emmy has also always had a sensitive tummy... tried many different approaches, but have done the best with Hills science diet. Canned and dry,the id formula when she has a flare up,mature dog formula when things are normal.

Sounds like the food. At 4 mos. old the dogs GI tract certainly is not fully developed. Did the Doc tell you to put the dog on the food for only 4 days? When you get a reaction like this it's pretty much a given it's the food.
