Use of Furminator Vote for this post

Hi everyone, just after some more advice...

Has anyone had any experience using the "furminator" on their dog??... It was recommended to me by a friend who has border collies, and says it's awesome to remove the dead hair.

I've watched the youtube videos, and they all seems to be dogs that shed, which makes me question whether I could use it on my little Nyla.

Thanks everyone.

Not sure why you would need it on a Westie (especially a puppy). We use a brush and it seems more than ample. Gracie loses very little hair.

I find that just brushing Maisey works fine. Westies really don't shed much. I used a Furminator on her once because my mom has one. It worked okay on her, but it works wonders on my mom's dogs (English Setter and Lab). I don't think Westies shed enough for it to work that well.

I'll keep going with just the brushing :).

We use the Mars Coat King and I think several others here use it too.  It's supposed to be the next best thing to hand-stripping.  We don't clipper Zoe.  I use the Coat King on the areas you would normally clipper to remove all the dead hair.  Works good for us.   If you don't know about it there's a good website that gives lots of info about grooming, feeding, etc.  It's www.downsouthwesties.com.    It also gives the link to JeffersPet where you can purchase the Mars Coat King.  Hope this helps.

Thanks for the tip on the Coat-King & the downsouth site!!  Our mum loved it...  She's been clippering us,  but may try this tool so we can get back our natural coat...  Hope we like it...
