Adding another Westie to our home
Hi everyone! New to this site and was very upset to see older posts about a Yvonne and what she was doing to Westies. My name is Yvonne and I am trying to rescue a Westie. So please do not think I am that person.
I am reaching out for some advice to those of you with more than one Westie in your home. Our current Westie, Conner is about 7-8 yrs old and we would like to introduce another Westie into our home. My concern is I do not want Conner to feel threatened, sad, or anything else other than happy that he would now have a buddy.
What is the best way to bring a new dog into your home and introduce this dog to our dog Conner? Conner has been the only dog in our home for about 5 years. We rescued Conner from a wonderful organization and he is a spoiled fellow.
Is there anyway to tell if a dog will be ok with another dog? I appreciate any advice. Thanks

Re: Adding another Westie to our home
My suggestion would be to contact your local Westie rescue group and see if they can find a female Westie for adoption. They would also work with you to ensure the two were compatible.
Good luck!

Re: Adding another Westie to our home
Our Maggie was 7 when adopted Caesar, a rescue. He was 5. We introduced them away from home first. A few days later when we brought Caesar home we re-introduced them in the back yard. We made sure to give Maggie lots of attention, fed her first, petted her first, treats for her first etc. They have done very well together, not a single fight. Maggie does tend to ignore him most of the time. I had hoped they'd be best friends but they really play together only occasionally. But after 3 years I think they secretly really like each other -lol.
