Westie PUPPY in Virgina SHELTER!

"Stewart" is a 7 month old male Westie. He is mostly housebroken, crate trained, likes other dogs, and riding in the car. He detests cats and has a loud and sharp bark.

Angie,
See my note under Message Board. There are 4-- four apparently pure-bred Cairn terriers back east on Petfinders. A little girl in Chillicothe, Ohio (45 mi from Columbus, so could be flown out easily), two in New Jersey, and one coming up in Massachusetts. There are a number of Cairns posted on Colonel Potter and Cairn Rescue USA! I understand that they are reluctant to allow them to go home to people who have "young children," but for these babies to live "forever" in their foster homes, rather than go to their "real" forever homes seems to be against the best interest of the dog...... eventually we hope they go to their permanent homes, but after yet one more disruption in their lives.....
Doesn't seem fair. A great big thank you to you and AJ @ WRM for getting these babies to their appropriate and loving forever homes without prolonged foster stays. It clearly shows the time and effort you folks put into the rescue process.

Thanks again.

Thanks for your kind words... we all certainly try to work as hard as we can to get the dogs out and into homes... I do know that its a little harder for some rescues due to lack of help - not just foster homes, but all the other areas involved - homechecks, phone calls, email, transport and so on... it may be something some may offer to do to help Col. Potter out with. I know Pam (Molly, Mindy and Harley's mom) has done this with WRM and Col. Potter! And Nancy (Dutchess' Mom) has been helping Yorkies and Westies (Capital Paws)! And many others on this board! :)

The most important thing is we all watch shelters, ads and if a dogs in need - go get it. Very few groups will stick you with a dog and for many or you - we all know WRM has ended up with many a doggies before that don't exactly look that much like a Westie in the end! LOL... but we still find it a home or a rescue that knows the breed best to take it! I'm NOT saying to go get everydog out of a shelter and call us - we are NOT that good! LOL... but for the most part, we try to save what we can, as the other groups do.

I want to speak for all the groups on this board, We thank each and everyone of you from the deepest crevices of our hearts for helping over and over and over again. :)

As its been said before, we may not save all the dogs in the world, but the dogs we do save - we change its world - and those who helped get warm fuzzy feelings at the end of the day!

Your friend in rescue,
Ang

I just wrote an inquiry on Stewart. I have been wanting a second dog and usually they are in the south or soutwest. I live in Pittsburgh, Pa. so this is really not that far away. I have inquired about others but have never gotten an answer. I do not have a fenced in yard and wonder if that is the problem. I walk my dog on a leash and we play with him all the time. I will probably fence in my yard in the near future but my husband is out of work at this time so it will have to be later. I hope I do hear something.

Don't know if you specifically want a Westie, or are willing to look at a Cairn. There is a darling little girl wheaten girl named Sandy in Chillicothe, Ohio, which is probably just a bit further from Pittsburg that the West Virginia pup. She is about 3 years old, and about 15# according to Petfinders. Can't post the px, but the addresses and e-mails are below.
They will adopt to someone in Ohio or surrounding states only.
She was rescued from the Pound and is with:

Cause For Paws
Chillicothe, OH

causeforpawsrescue@hotmail.com

Please contact perfectpup@insight.rr.com

Also, please see previous post from Brittany, she is in Southern Ohio for this week, and is possible available for some help w/ transport.

Wow! I feel like I'm doing Rescue by Committee,, LOL

Thanks. E-mail me if you need anymore info.

I checked on the Cairn in Ohio I emailed them and got a response. They said they will send my message to the foster mom but out of state requests are few and far between. So I am not sure this will work either.

That's really a bummer---- she's been posted for about 3 weeks, I think-------- And you are not that far away! I had a lady in Louisiana who was willing to talk w/ me even though I'm in California. She acknowledged that there are more and more rescues that are placed out of state. You might want to refer her to Westie Rescue of Missouri, who placed pups in adjacent states, and as far away as California.
If I can help in any way, let me know. I'm sure there are also other TC members who would be happy to act as references, and could give them some feedback about "out-of-state" adoptions.

Would they let you e-mail the foster directly?
We'll keep fingers and paws crossed.

Keep us posted!

Thanks,
Pam
