Sadie's Fund- 18 yr old-Coyote Bitten
Here is an update to a heart renching story, which ran in the San Diego Trubune newspaper and several national TV stations. A homeless woman's 18 year old Westie (Sadie) was bitten by a coyote. As a result the dog, who didn't have a current rabies shot, was placed in the animal shelter for six months under quarantine. Well we have worked so hard on this situation, believing people would hear the story and step forward to help. And, as of 8/31/04, WR of CA successfully negotiated with the shelter for an 'off-site' quarantine location. We are providing through our most generous benefactors, lodging for Maree and Sadie to be together once again. At the reunion, there was not a dry eye in the house. But, legally Sadie is required to finish the six month quarantine (January 2005). So WR of CA provided, even when Sadie was in the shelter, appropriate food, orthopedic bedding, treats, collar/leash, shampoo, flea products, vitamins, and other necessities to insure for her comfort. But now at least this deaf and partially blind 18 yr old Westie has been reunited with her owner. Sadie was denied human touch while in the shelter because of quarantine. In the 32 day stay in the shelter, before we could negotiate her release, her health steadily declined. But now you should see her, she is making good strides daily while in the loving care of Maree. She enjoys the opportunity to once again lay in the sun, feel grass under her feet, and give kisses to her Mum. We are still in need of funds for this on-going effort. Maree is working at a temporary agency, slowly getting back on her feet. Our primary concern, as Sadie's caregiver, is her comfort and well being.
