Renny - New to Cairn Rescue League

Please welcome the Cairn Rescue League’s newest rescue, Renny from NY, fresh from Long Island! Renny was picked up as a stray and brought to the Town of Hempstead Animal Shelter. He bit the policeman who brought him there! He was at the shelter for 10 days, and was fine, so they adopted him out, but he was returned the next day because he was snarly.

Renny is now safely ensconced at my vets', where he'll be neutered on Friday. I don't think he's any more than a year old, and I don't think he's inherently aggressive, I think he's just dazed and confused. Other than trying to bite me once on the drive home (and he did try to warn me by growling, but I was listening to an audiobook, so I wasn't sure I had heard him right), he let me handle him any which way - his rear, his feet, he even let me pick a good-sized piece of dried poop out of the hair on top of his head - with no fuss.

He was fine the three nights he was at the vet's in Long Island, and my vets are cairn-experienced, so I'll be interested to see what they think. I will be looking for an experienced foster home for him, so if you're game, please let me know!

Renny is a handsome red wheaten with dark points. I’ll forward a picture as soon as I get one.

Good luck with him. Hopefully it's just cos' he's bewildered and a bit scared. He's been moved about a lot, bless him.

Renny, sounds ALOT like Willie when we got him. That was 14 months ago. Poor little guy was starved and mistreated and left alone in a room-he survived by drinking from the toilet.
When rescue got him, he was shuffled around like they all are when they come in. So when we adopted him, he didn't know where he was or would end up.
Now he is the most loveable little guy-he just had alot of insecurities to overcome.
I hope Renny finds that wonderful home, where they will give him time to adjust and feel loved.

Actually, shuffling around once they're in rescue is something I like to avoid if at all possible. If they come from a shelter, they're boarded for 10 days, but then I try to send them straight to a foster home and from there to their adoptive home.

But yes, I'm sure poor little Renny doesn't know which end is up at the moment. To the shelter, adopted out, back to the shelter (when I found out about him), to the vet's in Long Island, and now at my vet till next Tuesday. I wish there was some way to let them know that everything's going to be OK from here on out.
