Col Potter 2004 year end WOW report

Dear Friends,

This year has been a remarkable one for CPCRN. Utterly remarkable! What began over 4 years ago as the tiniest dream in Danielle’s and my heart, that we might have enough money left over from the donations we had collected to memorialize Col. Potter’s tragic death to help ONE Cairn in need of rescue, has blossomed into this amazing organization comprised of untold numbers of volunteers. All working toward the same goal….that we might rescue, rehabilitate and rehome AS MANY Cairns as we possibly can.

From the unlikely dream of helping just one Cairn to where we are now is an utter miracle! And that miracle happens again and again, each and every day in this wonderful organization. Last year, at this time, I posted the first annual "WOW! Report", and, frankly, I never thought that we'd ever exceed 2003's accomplishments. But we have literally blown the doors off last year's statistics. In each and every category, the growth of CP has been nothing short of breathtaking!

As this is the "Year End WOW! Report", which provides a complete summary of 2004's statistics, I believe that the numbers speak for themselves. Anything I might add, with the notable exception of a heartfelt THANK YOU to each and every one of you, is simply gilding the lily. So, without further ado...I am so VERY proud to share these humbling statistics with each of you. Because EACH of you, in your own way, has helped us reach these stupendous figures. Thank you from the very of our hearts for all that you do to help us help them. Please give yourselves an enormous round of applause for all you’ve done to help us!

Monika’s Intakes Team’s 2004 numbers:

336 CAIRNS TAKEN INTO OUR PROGRAM…..let me repeat that….CPCRN rescued 336 Cairns in 2004 !!!!!!!!

70 Were Breeder Buys (20.8%)
79 Were Shelter Saves (23.5%)

20 Were Puppies Born After Their Mommies Were Saved by CP (6%)

Karen & Tracey's Matchmaker 2004 numbers:

368 Applicants Assigned to the MM Team
71 Withdrew or adopted elsewhere
32 Still in process at year's end
264 Dogs Carefully Matched and Adopted!!

Kathy Garis' Post Adoption Team 2004 numbers:

470 Adopted Cairns and their adoptive families followed up on

Bill Starks' Transportation Team 2004 numbers:

141 Transports conducted
277 Dogs Transported by our all-volunteer Transport Team
330 Volunteers participated in one or more transports during 2004 (includes multiple transports)
167,390 TOTAL miles traveled in 2004 !!!

2004 YEAR END NUMBERS:

336 Cairns taken into our loving arms in calendar year 2004
14 Cairns crossed the Bridge while in our program

97 Cairns were in our care as of 12/31/2004
264 Cairns ADOPTED TO LOVING HOMES in 2004!!!!!!!

HOW DO WE COMPARE TO 2003?

In 2003, we SAVED 233 dogs. In 2004, we SAVED 336 - An increase of 44.2%
In 2003, we RECEIVED 610 Applications. In 2004, we received 1206 - An increase of 97.7%
In 2003, we INSPECTED 248 homes. In 2004, we inspected 364 - An increase of 46.8%
In 2003, we ADOPTED 187 Cairns to homes of their own. In 2004, we carefully matched and adopted 264 - An increase of 46.82%
NOTE: Some Teams, such as our Post Adoption Team and our Transport Team were not established in 2003, hence there are no prior year's numbers for them.

Let me put these remarkable numbers in simpler terms:

CPCRN saved and rescued a dog almost every day this year. A dog rescued almost every single day! Monika’s Team is amazing. And so is she!

CPCRN adopted a dog to a loving home 3 out of every 4 days this year. Think about that, 3 out of every 4 days a Cairn found a home of its own!

CPCRN performed an in-person HSI every single day this year - including Sundays and Holidays.

CPCRN helped support more than one adoptive family each day, every day - all year long.

CPCRN traveled 2/3 of the way to the MOON transporting rescued Cairns into foster care and to their forever homes!!!

CPCRN received and reviewed 3-1/3 new Applications to adopt every single day. Over 3 per day!!

CPCRN completed almost 2 Reference Checks every day.

When all is said and done, we RESCUED a dog almost every day this year, and we did all the grinding, behind-the-scenes work to find, approve and adopt our Cairns to their own “forever homes” 3 out of every 4 days all year long.

These numbers take my breath away. And I can say to EVERY person who helped us is THANK YOU from the bottom of our hearts.

And from the bottom of theirs!

Hugs and Love,

Michele

Thank you colonel Potter for saving my Chance from a puppy mill and getting him to us! He was rescued at 5 weeks old, his Mom died before they could get her help, Monika hand-raised him until he and his brothers were 12 weeks old!

Incredible statisitics... you have all performed miracles and we are all very thankful and proud of what you do. Your Faces of Rescue Calendar is so heartwarming.

I have one question pertaining to donations. As I live in Canada, I am unable to make use of the tax deduction. Is it possible for CPCRN to write a tax slip to someone of my choosing??

Thanks to all of you,
Theo and Casey XOXO

No, if you could do that, tax receipts would be quite popular on Ebay especially come April 15th . I know I'd be buying a few! LOL!

Wow - what a great thought! I don't know the answer to that but I'll ask Danielle about this. Somehow I'm suspecting "Uncle Sam" would frown on this but personally I love your thinking!! This would be a great thing for our many Canadian supporters to know for the future. Thanks for asking.

I hope you will look into this and let us know, seems a shame when I think of those who could make good use of it. Perhaps they would even send a donation once their tax refund comes in LOL :o)

We send a tax receipt out with all mall and ebay items. What you do with it is your business.

from the other perspective, I would NEVER want to explain one I didnt have a matching payment to the IRS.... that would be sure to cause an audit

Wonderful statistics. Thanks for the news, Corinne....there's a lot of homes refused, isn't there ? That surprised me !!
Well done, each and every one of you involved.

I dont know details about refusals... but we generally dont rehome to a family with kids under 12... since we dont know the rescues 'real' background thats too big a chance for us to take... some also may insist they can be off leash - we wont let them go there either....

other than that.. some folks dont fill out the entire form.. we need it all or it doesnt go very far at all...
and the way the form is, is that you have to redo it.. cant update it.

Re: Col Potter 2004 year end WOW report Reply to this Message

I actually see all the refusals and I would agree with Corinne that these are the primary reasons why an application will be "refused." Any forms that are not filled out aren't really treated as refusals - we try to work with the people to get the forms filled out whenever possible. We do actually have people with no computer access who have friends fill out their forms or they do it via paper/regular mail. Unheard of, right? GRIN

There have been cases when people indicate they always keep their dogs outdoors for the majority of the time - this is never allowed for any of our dogs.

Also we do not outright refuse an applicant initially for the NO DOG OFF LEASH policy - usually we will talk to them and explain about rescue dogs having BAGGAGE - they are NOT going to be the same as a dog you raised from a pup. Many people don't consider this before applying to adopt a rescue.

Hope this helps. We spend immense amounts of time making sure all our applicants are prepared and understand they are being given a very valuable "beng" - a rescued Cairn Terrier.

WOW! what great numbers! I am very proud to say that I fostered two of these dogs and they found their forever homes. If it was not for the TC I would have never known about Col. Potter. They are a great rescue!
