Molly - New to Cairn Rescue League
Please join the Cairn Rescue League in welcoming Molly. Molly was surrendered to the director of a shelter and should be in her foster home by this weekend. I'll try to put a picture of her in the blog area. Let's just say the discussion of skin issues is timely! Fortunately, she's going to a foster home that is experienced with this sort of thing.
"supposed to be 4 years old, and very sweet, but with horrific skin; owner said was just recent condition but volunteer says has evidence of much longer involvement. Some has 'elephantized'; owner also stated that was only a 'flare up' from when her daughter left and went back to school."
"I have the little female cairn, OTI, Spayed, etc., but with horrendous skin - combination allergy / yeast / secondary bacterial infection; but she's VERY sweet, allowed us to do nails, gave her a benedryl to help with the severe itching; I'm going to start her tomorrow on Wellness dry - no corn, no wheat, no soy; and my lemon/vinegar shampoo, and more benedryl to see if we can get her some relief; she's 'Hot n' Sweaty'.
she's moist, hot and smells like an old tennis shoe, or a wet Army blanket ( or both )."

What a pitiful look on her wee face, so sad. Obviously she's been in discomfort for quite a while. She's a lucky girl that she will now get the care and loving she needs and deserves.

Poor wee soul. I'm pleased she has an experienced foster carer ready to look after her. XXX.

Even with her problems, she looks like a sweetheart. I am glad she is going to a foster home that is familiar with her problems.

Re: Molly - New to Cairn Rescue League
The symptoms you describe sound like Malassezia. I had a Westie that had it years ago and unfortunately it was never diagnosed as such. I know that it is a Cairn terrier and not a Westie but you might read on it, because it sounds just like what my dog had and there is specific treatment for it.
