New pics of Toby
Toby is growing hair in his spots. He has surgery on the 16th...unless the vet is back from his seminar then it could be the 13th or the 15th....

Re: New pics of Toby
He loves to snuggle in blankets.
If you have a moment remember this sweet boy in prayers. Mom is nervous about his surgery....testicles are way up inside...bad teeth....two back dew claws hanging....lump on his shoulder. He is such a sweetheart.

Here is a better view of his back. He's eating good...he gets so excited at suppertime. But right behind his ribcage is just so sunk in.....but he weighs 17 pounds.

Re: New pics of Toby
Carol, he is looking Sooo much better, thanks to all your good care. Thanks for looking after him so well.
I am terribly worried about his neutering too, as we have heard such horror stories about the results of doing it when their testicles are not decended. Can they not wait a while on this? I also wonder if it is really necessary as I understand they are not fertile.... just wishing Toby didn't have to undergo the neutering as it is so risky. What about them just doing a vasectomy??? Poor little Toby...

It bothers me, too...but he needs his dental and the other things taken care of. I'll check with WRM and see what they would like to do.

Update...surgery is
Monday. I'm going to ask about the neutering. But he has to have the dental as he has bad teeth and I just don't want him to go through kidney failure. So he will still be put under. Darned if you do and darned if you don't.

Re: Update...surgery is
I should have read more before I posted before. I didn't realize Toby was 12.
I would think the Vet would be the best person to decide this, and hope he feels that Toby doesn't need to undergo additional, invasive surgery.
Re his teeth, if they give him just enough to put him under, that will hopefully lessen the stress on his body at his age.
We'll be keeping Toby and you in our thoughts and prayers.

Re: Update...surgery is
Poor little love! Thank God Toby is in now in your loving care.
Re the neutering, if they have retained testicles and if they do not get neutered, it makes them more at risk for testicular cancer later on.
My Baxter had one retained testicle, it was way up in his abdomen. He was nine months when he was neutered. The surgery is more invasive, more along the lines of a spay, as they have to go into to abdominal area.
When he has his surgery, you may want to consider asking the Vet for some pain medication. Poor Baxie, he was so swollen afterwards and walked "funny," but he still jumped up on the couch, before we put a barrier up.
They didn't send him home with any pain meds, and I called the next day and asked them for some as he was uncomfortable. A few days later, he was doing much, much better.
As worrying as any surgery can be, Toby does need his teeth cleaned, so it would probably be better to have it done all together.
Bless you for all you are doing for Toby! Give him a great big (gentle) hug from us.
Hugs and Westie puppy kisses,

I have tears of joy!!!!!
Toby zoomed tonight. Now that's a first!!!!! He was wanting to play so we played tug of war and zoom and go get the toy for about 20 minutes. The little stinker waited until all the others went outside, so it was just him and me. Boy, is he ever strong and was full of westitude!!!!! I was laughing so hard....it is such a joy to see him do this. Most of the time he just lays around and sleeps. For 12 years young he sure is full of it!!!!!! Maybe it's the change in weather...I don't know because all he did was sleep all day. But he showed what a character he is!!!!!!!

Re: New pics of Toby
Hi Carol Hope all goes well. Joey had one testical stuck way up and they had no problems with his surgery. But at 12 instead of 11 months who knows. The vet gave us Meticam (plus one more morphine shot for the road) for pain.
