How do I know when to get my claws clipped?

My claws seem to be doin more tap-tap-tappin these days on the hard-wood floors...how does my owner know when they should be trimmed??

Any advice is welcome!

If she's really unsure I'd ask your groomer or otherwise, if there's not a trip due then run him up and down on concrete a few times after a ball. That'll file them down a bit.

I trim the Girlies nails once a month, You can do it yourself very easily. Just get some good clippers with a stop and go for it. I did my three yesterday. I sat them up on their grooming table and got it done very quickly. Even the normally balky Daisy let me do it without the usual fuss. The table really made a big difference.
Just take a bit off at a time until you feel more sure of yourself. You can have your vet or groomer show you how, or you could just let them do it.

Bauer,
You mom has to relax otherwise you will feel her stress. Tell her to snip off just a tiny bit off each nail so both of you get used to it. A treat after each nail is a good idea. Then in a couple weeks, again just a tiny bit...or just go through the motions...treats, too! I used to fight my mom, but now (most of the time) I'm tolerant. She also chooses to do the clipping after a long walk when I'm not so full of energy.

Good luck to both of you - you could give your mom a treat or two, too....or just nose kisses after each toe!

I use a metal nail file and or a mini dremel (works fast) I hold the nail steady between my fingers with the wick at my tips so I know where to stop file and go to town filing! Dutchess and I had an experience with the clippers and now we both are shy of them lOL! Better for her and MY nerves.

My mom uses the sander head on the dremel and does me every week. I lie on my back in her lap so she can see, and when I pull my foot back it means its just short enough!

My people have been playing bone (fetch the raw-hide) with me on the tennis court every other day or so...I love zooming to get it when we have the whole court to ourselves.

Thanks for all the advice, especially the one for mom to RELAX!!! I always try to get her to do this!
