Head Rubbing

I know that I am somewhat obbsesive but please bear with me as my obbsesivness will probably not be getting any better.....

Jetts, my 4 year old Westie, rubs his face and head alot. It always seems to me to be done in pleasure and I check his ears frequently to make sure all is well. Do your Westies do this....Ben does it but not as frequently or in the same way....I will see Jetts rub his face on the floor, couch, walls, etc....any info is great...

Jetts sounds perfectly normal to me LOL. All my westies have done this to some extent, Casey is the most dramatic and just grins while he is at it, whether it be on the couch, carpet or in the snow.

All of mine face rub, but there was one time that Daisy was doing it to excess, I took her in to the vet, and he took a tiny burr out of her ear. I couldn't see it in there as it was way in next to her ear drum.

If he lets you look into his ears I'm sure they're fine...if he won't let you near then I'd imagine they're sore....I still think it's a pleasure thing you're describing, though, Jaime.

Re: Head Rubbing Reply to this Message

Both Minkies do it if they've had an especially tasty dinner or when they get wet !!
Ear trouble's usually more of a head shaking you'd see.

Re: Head Rubbing Reply to this Message

My Dexter does lots of head rubbing. He has a morning ritual where he amuses me by scooting all around the livingroom, with his cheek pressed into the carpet.

Fancy does some head rubbing, but not as much as Dexter. When I noticed that she seemed to be rubbing her ears against the carpet more than usual I checked them, and sure enough, I saw that they were black inside, and needed to be treated with antibiotics.

If you are checking Jetts ears regularly, and there doesn't seem to be a problem, then I'm sure he is just doing this for fun like my Dexter does.

Enya likes rubbing her face, too. Sometimes - not very often- it is a sign of a tooth ache. And when they have ear infections, you usually can smell it.

Skeeter rubs her head the most, which is unfortunate since she is also the one with very fine hair. She constantly mats it up!!

Re: Head Rubbing Reply to this Message

Upon waking Elliot would rub his face with his paws then scoot it on the floor. That's how he'd clean the eye boogies from his face. After eating something messy or drinking water, he'd rub his face on the furniture. When he smelled something he wanted to cover up with his scent, he'd rub his head against it before trying to roll on it. If it was furniture he'd just use his head. Sometimes houseguests will leave the scent of their furkids on furniture. Transfers from their clothing. Does Jetts shake his head afterwards? Is he a marker?

Yep, my boys always have tossed hair on their heads. They are forever rubbing their faces on something. I think it is just a thing they all do...

Re: Head Rubbing Reply to this Message

McDuff always rubs his head on the carpet - especially after he eats. He uses his paws too, kind of like a cat does. I do check his ears and he just had his check up and they were fine. I think you could probably tell if it's rubbing like he is trying to get something off, or just a more relaxing face cleaning, scratching thing.

Hi,
I know this is going to sound silly but Clancy rubs his head
against a bush and then wets, If he cannot find a bush or something, we have a long walk until something is there to rub agains. With all the snow we have, he is finding it hard to find the right bush to rub against. I have caught him rubbing up against my living room chair and caught him just in time. Had to go out and dig the snow away from his favorite bush. Anyone elses Westing do this one.
