EAR Cleaning solution!
Since so many pups have had a problem of late with ears, I decided to repost this:
Recommended by Wellpet
This is what we use. Mind you, it is not meant to cure an ear infection. This is a multipurpose cleaner esp. for EARS, feet, skin..and it does work well.
Here goes: 3/4 cup witch hazel 1/4 cup aleo vera gel (from health food store, drinkable form) couple drops of lavender oil added to mixture. Mix and store in small jar with tight lid. Can be stored at room temp. and is very soothing for the ears. I have also used it as a sore foot reliever from allergies and chewing. Very reasonable $ and easy to make. As effective as those ear cleaning products sold at vets. Hugs, Nancy :) We all say aahhhhh!

Re: EAR Cleaning solution!
Thanks for the "recipe". Iver has severe allergies and frequently develops an ear infection, so this is good to have.
How do you apply it, from a squeezy bottle?
Again, Thanks

Re: EAR Cleaning solution!
Your choice of application as to your dog's tolerance to any ear cleaner product. Some dogs don't mind you literally squirting it in and massaging the canal...and then they shake the head and it clears..that is the unusal pupper. I generally use a cotton ball and don't have it dripping wet either...then insert it into the ear and massage. Then follow up with a dry tissue/paper towel to relieve the dirt that will wash away from the ear. I also used it to "brighten up" the ear tips before and after plucking the hair and in the entry of the ear. It is not recommended to use q-tips in a pups ears. Use either the cotton balls or tissue. When it comes to cleaning toes, I have resorted to a dish to soak the paw and then pat dry between the pads of the foot. Apply to the skin if a hot spot is starting or you notice unusual chewing or licking. It neutralizes the "itch" factor well. Best to you all. Hugs, Nancy :)

Cheers, Nancy. The Minkies' groomer always plucks their ear hair followed up by a special ear wipe. XXX.

Re: EAR Cleaning solution!
Great tip Nancy, we must know the same people, we use this too, and also witch hazel for doing lots of things to help sores and itchies. We always have this in our medicine cabinet.

Re: EAR Cleaning solution!
Nancy, is this the type of aloe vera gel you are talking about? Also, does this need to be refrigerated or not? I know it would be awfully cold on the ears LOL.

Re: EAR Cleaning solution!
Yes, that is the one that I got. I use Aloe Vera to soothe an achy tummy as well.. cleanses acid from the system as in joint pain generally result from acid forming around the joint and toxin accumulating and not being cleared away.. So I have the larger bottle, and YES the Aloe does need to be refrig. but not the solution you make up. I just leave my prepared solution on the counter where I do grooming. It keeps well. Hugs, Nancy :)
