Dodger Update

A picture says a thousand words. Here are five.
Many of you know Westie Rescue of Missouri's little Westie, Dodger. This is little guy is going through his treatments of radiation to fight the cancer that could have been easily treated had he known a loving master. But Dodger was raised in a puppymill. After being freed from this terrible place, his new mom took him in to see about therapy to help a bum front leg... it turned out it was cancer ridden and had to be removed altogether. Tonight, we ask that you please keep Dodger and his new mom in your thoughts and prayers this holiday season.
It is the hope of the hospital to have Dodger's radiation treatments finished by the end of this month (December). As you see in these photos, our once happy little Westie boy appears a bit depressed - and who can blame him. He was given freedom from a mill, the life within a cage and now is stuck back in a confined area. The hospital has been wonderful with keeping Valerie up to date on his progress and is very good about playing with Dodger and giving his needed walks and exercise, but Dodger tasted freedom and a loving home that has suddenly dissapeared. The photos just broke Valerie's heart and all of us in rescue, seeing her boy looking disheveled and sad - but she knows in her heart - he will be happy and healthy soon enough. So far, we have raised $990 for Dodger's treatment. We at Westie Rescue of Missouri would like to take this time to thank each of you for your generosity and prayers for this darling, sweet boy... soon enough, he'll be running as he had been - never minding the speed, but running all the same because all of you cared so much. :)
Please continue to spread the word in helping Dodger with his treatment. Remember, in Missouri alone, there are 1,500 registered commercial puppymills, with many more being added each year. The animals kept in these mills live their entire lives in a cage that, according to the law of the State, must be big enough for them to stand up and turn around. No bigger, no smaller. Many of them barely meet this requirement. Imagine your best friend, the next time you look at him/her, running free in your backyard, or playing sweetly with your children or standing protectively over them, or the time you spend out playing a game of fetch with him/her .... remember the others on these cold winter nights and days that will never know such everyday events, let alone the warmth of a human's love, touch and caress.

Oh, I have this huge lump in my throat and tears in my eyes. I am so sorry for what he is having to go through and for his family. Thanks for posting the pictures Lynda. I do have him on my prayer list...

Poor Dodger. He sure has had a rough life. Just when things were getting better this had to happen. Prayers to the little guy.

Poor little Dodger I hope he gets better real fast and his family gets back to normal. He and they will certanly be at the top of our prayer list. Any update on the total amout we have raised so for for the little lad?
