Not long after that, the phone rang again – this time it was the Vernon County Sheriff’s office calling to say that my friend needed to either return the puppies immediately or she would be arrested. The officer was not interested in the fact that my friend now legally owned the puppies or that they were seriously ill. The Amish man called the Sheriff because he wants his money from the dog broker – period! No concern about life or well-being here!

The grand finale of this story isn’t known yet as this friend is still fighting to save these puppies lives but she keeps getting calls from the Vernon County police force threatening to come over and arrest her. Now, how is that right? Doesn’t your community care about life and legal rights? Why all the threats from the police force? Why are all these Amish people being allowed to abuse animals in your town and county without a care for what is right and wrong? They make thousands and thousands of untaxed dollars a year producing puppies for Pet stores. Did you know that when my friend has visited some of these Amish puppymillers, who all contact her – she doesn’t solicit this work – they showed her places on their properties where they “put the unwanted dogs to sleep”? They have sheds on the backs of their properties where they throw the puppies and dogs that rescue groups haven’t taken or which haven’t been sold to Pet store brokers and they are locked in and starved to death! She was shown and told this!

Now, I live near an Amish community, too. All Amish are not bad! I, personally have Amish friends. BUT – Hillsboro is fast becoming the puppymill haven of the state and your community needs to take steps to stop this horrific problem. Trust me, you don’t want to be known as the Puppymill County, it isn’t a good connotation.

Please if you can send a e-mail fax, phone whatever you can to the paper, this is really bad, and if you didn't know before what a Amish puppymill is you do now
2 of our girls were saved by these woman who have gotten MANY dogs out in the area- it just makes me sick when we get a e-mail that they are no longer going to feed them put into a box, and that is there end.

Disgraceful. I would have thought that once he signed that piece of paper they would no longer legally belong to him.
