My crazy week!!!
Lat week was a very crazy week for me and my Mummy. My poor Mummy has been busy trying to find a new Vet for me. She has been very upset with how our previous Vet treated my brother Caesar and me. She had to fight with him and his partners to get care for my brother Caesar and me. Well she found a new one and she seems really nice. My mummy made an appointment for me last week and we went to meet. her. My Mummy told her she was very concerned about my liver function. She asked the Vet for labs and an ultrasound to check out my liver, kidneys, & bladder. The Vet agreed and my Mummy was right all my liver enzymes are elevated especially my ALK which is a whopping 1,994!!!! 200 is high normal!!! The Vet immediately made arrangements for a specialist to come and do an ultrasound on me. The ultrasound showed no tumors, some liver damage from liver cirrhosis. She put me on some medication for that and plans on evaluating me for possible Cushings. My Mummy & I are so happy it was not cancer. We miss Caesar so much and my Mummy has been so worried about me. Love Judah, and Angels Caesar & Murphy

Re: My crazy week!!!
Hello :) Katy’s ALK was that high for years. According to my vet it doesn’t necessarily mean there is a liver issue. Milk Thistle was given to Katy to make it go down and it did not. She was checked for Cushings and she did not have that. Did they see his gallbladder? Katy’s was sludgy - that could have been one of the reasons for her high numbers. They put her on meds for that and she felt better. Sounds like your new vet is on the right track.

Re: My crazy week!!!
You are absolutely right!!!! This is my fourth dog with this problem. Three Scottish Terriers and one Westie. My first Scottie Spencer lived to be 16 1/2 with it and died of old age. My second Scottie had elevated ALK and I lost him to liver cancer at the age of 11yrs. My precious Caesar's ALT & ALK shot up and was diagnosed with Copper Retention Syndrome. Because of the wonderful care he received from a outstanding Vet Internist he saved his life. I lost him to Transitional Cell Bladder Cancer at age of 14 1/2. I found that out after it was too late to treat it because of poor Vet care here in Florida & COVID. My Judah got the same terrible care. After I lost my Caesar & with COVID restrictions lifted in Florida I was able to do some research and find a new Vet here. All three of my dogs were put on supplements which contain Milk Thistle and sam E. All three of them were put on Ursodiol which deals with the sluggish gallbladder issue. That is what causes or contributes to the liver issues. All 3 were followed with ultrasounds. My Spencer also was diagnosed with atypical Cushings. Judah now is on the appropriate liver supplements (I started those on my own), and is on Ursodial. I feel like we are on the right tract. I will make sure he has follow up labs & ultrasounds. I miss the wonderful Internal medicine Vet I had in Illinois.
