Pet Insurance? Vote for this post

Good Morning!
As we get closer to making a decision on a pup (or 2!), we’re looking into the vet costs associated with puppies. What do people think about pet insurance? And which company (if any) would you recommend? Is it actually financially beneficial for a healthy dog? How much $$ do you save at wellness/vaccine visits? Any and all info is appreciated! Such a confusing thing to figure out! We’re in Massachusetts in case that makes any difference.

Thanx in advance!
Jill

Hello Jill
The only dog we insured was Emma our collie and to be honest she never really had anything wrong until she aged and that was joints  with being so active...we cancelled a long time before that and kept money for her in a pot...but Andrew was a rescue and because of his back legs he already had a history of problems so to speak so when we got Biba she was given full health bill and no known problems so we have her on lifetime policy with a company called Agria. but as you know we are in UK.
Hope you get lots more replies .Hugs Annie Biba and Drew xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

The only pup we had insurance on was Kelsie...VPI Pet Insurance. We didn't have the plan that paid for check ups and vaccines but when she had surgery for her cancer, they reimbursed us for about half the cost which was a big help. There are so many new insurance plans out there with so many options, your vet should be able to help you if you decide to choose one. With Emmie, we were in a better place financially and we just put money into an "emergency" fund and pray we never have to use it .I'm sure there are others here who would be able to give you their thoughts on the subject. Good luck and we hope to hear good news from you very soon (on the puppy front!)
Love, Deb, Emmie, and Angel Kelsie

I've never had it just paid when I needed to. Just check to see what the policies include and exclude.

We never had insurance for any of our Dogs until our Dog we now have Duncan we started with him and Healthy Paws was rated high so we started at $39.00 per month small increase every year  six years later start of 2021 they sent notice that insurance would go up to $100.00 per month.
Needless to say it was cancelled however I do think it is a good thing but be carefull read the fine print make sure they cover vet cost and tests not just emergencys.

I have insurance for Riley with ASPCA. It is independent of the ASPCA.

It costs 70 a month cause I have preventative and accident & health.

It has helped a lot and saved me some money.

Good Luck

I have had pet insurance for three of my dogs.  It is with Nationwide and I carried a major medical policy with  a $250.00 deductible.  It is very helpful when you have big expenses.  My Murphy had a big liver tumor which was cancerous.  The total bill for the surgery plus ultrasounds etc.  was almost $4,000.  They paid just over $3,000 of it.  When My Caesar's liver enzymes shot up and he had all sorts of tests and a laprascopic  liver biopsy it was well over $3,000 dollars.  I paid $800.00 of it.  My  Judah has the same major medical and I have not used it on him yet but with all his problems I am sure I will.  You have to pay the bill up front, fill out the paper work and send copies of your recites along with all the medical reports.  I received the reimbursement check 2 weeks later.  It helped a lot for me.  I put the expenses on my credit card then was able to pay most of it off with the insurance payment.
