Fun Dog Survey Questions Vote for this post

Mom was thinking about doing this last night while watching Westminster -- how about some fun informal survey questions -- so here's No. 1:

This year's winner, Hickory, a Scottish Deeerhound, is owned by a vet named Dr. Dove. Have you ever heard of a vet with another animal name?

Our answer: We knew a vet named Dr. Lamb!

How about you?

Question No. 2 Vote for this post Reply to this Message Reply with a quote

Question No. 2:
Have you ever had a dog who you might consider "World's WORST DOG? (Perhaps one you had while growing up who was a lot of trouble, or one you never truly bonded with?

Our answer: Mom had Ralph, a basset hound that she "rescued" from an irresponsible owner. He was aloof with women, hostile towards men, and never learned the difference between carpet and grass, if you know what we mean. And then there was Happy, the Dalmatian who used to go dumpster diving then come home and throw up all over the place. And he could slip out of any collar any invented, which caused Mom's Dad to call him "Houdini."

My very first dog experience was a husky Puppy that would bite my toes..
His name was Skimo and he was part wolf.. I was a little scared of him  after he chewed our brand new patio furniture and also bit a  2 tiny dogs and a boy in the leg.. He was protecting our garage when a strange boy came right by the garage door.
Richard and our son Michael would play ruf with him.
If you are not raised with animals like I did it makes you scared such a big dog.

QUESTION No. 3: If fate decreed that you must adopt another dog -- other than a terrier -- which breed would you choose?

Our answer: an Irish Setter. We had one for almost 15 years, and she was just awesome.

A Tibetian Terrier.  Not truly a terrier, but I have had three and they are a wonderful breed.  They are very hard to come by, though.

His name was Cadeaux. (present)
He was a present from our son for my birthday and we already had a dog a mix with a hole in his heart. I loved both of them very much.

I would choose a wire haired doxie.  I think they are so cute.  I have a friend that has 2 doxies and they are great little dogs.

Early in our marriage Ella and I fell in love with the "Samoyed." So I think we would have a Sammie with a smile.

Re: Question No. 3 Vote for this post Reply to this Message Reply with a quote

This reminds me of our experience with a Samoyed. My wife and I were headed for the lake and going up I-35 we saw a large white dog in the median.  The first thought was that poor dog was going to hit by a truck. We turned around at the exit and went back. As soon as we opened the door, he jumped in. He was all matted, had no collar and smelled very bad. We took him to the Vet in Clear Lake ( which was about 12 miles) and they did not know him.  We left him there to get a bath and cleaned up and shots. About 175.00 later we took him home.
He liked to take off and would not come when called. We bailed him out of doggie jail ( 50.00) and tried to keep him in the house when he was off the lease. The last straw was when he jumped off the sun room roof and took off! ( we have a widows door which leads to the roof). We then made signs and headed back to the area where we found him. We stopped in this very small town and asked he post master if they knew the dog. Indeed they did. He lived across the road from them. We went to the farm and found out why he was out on the interstate. Their farm backed up to the interstate. It was their son's dog and he had left it there. The poor  dog just lived in the barn. When we left, the dog  tried to go with us,
Then that led to getting POM... just the opposite size. We lost Daisy last fall, and she is missed very much. She was 14.

Question No. 4 Vote for this post Reply to this Message Reply with a quote

Question No. 4:
If you were to get another terrier, which breed would you choose and why? (excluding a Westie or Cairn).

OUR ANSWER: I'd probably go for a Norfolk or Norwich terrier. Why: They look like sturdy happy dogs with happy dispositions.

You all sure know your dogs and I am afraid I do not know many breeds.
I remember when I did a test on finding a dog small sizze and good for allergies there was one I believe it was a Australian wire haired terrier and that is the reason why I would pick that one.

I think I would want a white (wheaten) Scotty. Lately I have really enjoyed the scotties we have rescued and ones we have met. I like a dog that can be so loyal to one person.

Either a cocker, my first dog love, or a Cavalier King Charles. But it's moot, as I'll always have Enzo.

Question No. 5: Which breed of dog that comes in different sizes but is otherwise identical, appears in three separate Westminster Groups?

(I think there might actually be two breeds that fit this question, but know of one for sure.)

What's the breed and what are those groups?

Answer: (Not posting my answer here for obvious reasons!)

That's the one I was thinking of ! At least they mentioned that fact last night but now I am seeing the mini in the terrier group and then both the standard and giant in the working group -- so now I am confused! Guess I messed up!

(I thought it was one in terrier, one in working and one in non-sporting)
Oh well! Sorry!

Mom would get an Irish Setter.  She had one as a teen.  He was so quirky.  Also, moms hair is the same color of an Irish setter. If she got a different type of terrier she would try a Welsh terrier or an Irish terrier.  That being said, mom just can't see herself without a Cairn or Scottie.  Dear Westie friend, the only reason she would not choose you is there is no way she could keep you white.  If a Westie lived with us he/she would soon become a West Highland Brown heehee!
