Re: Greasy coat...
Mulli has oily skin and he sheds more than any LWD I have ever had. I started them all on the Primrose Oil and it has helped with the itches and I also use the "Relief" Oatmeal Shampoo on him that I get at the vet's . Then I put a final rinse of 50/50 cider vinegar and water on him and leave it. He smells like a nice salad LOL

Re: Greasy coat...
It's a common problem. It has a name called Seborrhea I think it is where the skin gland produce too much oil. You use a coal tar shampoo. It's a medicated shampoo that you can get at the pet store or even Walmart. It is about the same cost as other shampoos. It has a medicated smell which isn't to bad.

Re: Greasy coat...
And, it is usually related to inhaled allergies.

Re: Greasy coat...
Our spaniel had that problem and we used to bath her with the tar shampoo Belinda suggested. It worked really well, although we did have to bath her more often than you usually bath doggies.

Re: Greasy coat...
Bee Gee does have Seborrhea Carol, We keep it under control by watching her diet, and bathing her once a week with coal tar-saclicylic acid shampoo. Dr's Foster and Smith have a good one, it's their medicated shampoo. I have tried others including human ones, but this one works best. The Seborrhea is a secondary infection, usually to allergies, no cure for it, you just control it. xxxxBetty and the Girlies...

Re: Greasy coat...
Angel has malessezia dermatitis which is a yeast infection of the skin. she has a patch of it down her back which makes her skin greasy. I've posted a link for it. We use Chlorhexiderm shampoo and also have Chlorhexiderm Max in a spray form. Its really hard to get rid of. You mostly just have to contol it.

Re: Greasy coat...
We found out last fall that Lexi has inhaled allergies and it causes her to rub her hair off around her eyes and top of her head but she does not appear to be oily. I sell Arbonne, a human botanically based skin care and we have a shampoo that has tea tree oil in it, would this be safe to use on her? There are no chemical dyes or fragrances in it? She was better during the winter and now that trees are starting to bud out again she is back at rubbing her head. The vet gave us steroids but I don't like those and have used benedryl when she is really bad. Those of you that use Primrose oil, is this a tablet or an actual oil, where do you get it?
Hugs to all! Keri and Lexi Lu

Re: Greasy coat...
That shampoo should be fine, Keri. Teatree is good for dogs if you can stand the smell-I don't like it. The Evening Primrose is sold in capsules and I just throw one in their meals and they don't even notice. XXX.
