I'm in terrible disgrace.
On Thursday, when Mummu was at wirk, I did something very bad. I didm't know it was bad. I thought it was fun.
A few weeks ago, one of our hens died. Her name was Heather and she used to be mean to me.
Mummy buried her in the garden.
On Thursday, I dug and dug and dug and I dug up Heather. Then I rolled in her. It was such fun, and it made me smell really nice.
When Mummy came home I thought she would think it was one of my brothers who had done it, but she knew it was me because I was covered in mud and feathers.
She didn't tell me off, but she gave me a bath. That was very nean.
She says I'm in dosgrace, but I know she loves me really.

Re: I'm in terrible disgrace.
Thos is another of our hems. She is called Hilda. She is nasty. They used to live in small cages, and would have gone off to be killed, but some people arranged for them to find new hones. I wish they had gone somewhere else.
They lay nice eggs. We eat them sometimed. Mummu gives us each a hard-boiled egg as a treat, but they aren't laying as many eggs now. Mummy says it's because it's wimter.

Re: I'm in terrible disgrace.
Is that a Rhode Island Red? We used to raise them, along with several other varieties, but the Rhodies were my favorite. I miss the fresh eggs -- our chickens free-ranged and the eggs were AWESOME -- but I don't miss being the one who got stuck cleaning their pens. Several times I've been tempted to get more chickens, but then I wake up!!!!

Re: I'm in terrible disgrace.
I'm not sure what type of hens they are Roo. I agree with you about cleaning them out. We've had so much rain, their yard was horrible and muddy. I cleaned it all out on Saturday and it looked really nice - until next day, when it poured with rain.
They have their own enclosure at the end of the garden, with a reasonable sized yard, a shed, a henhouse and run, and a two-story guinea-pig hutch which they prefer to their henhouse. They have the run of the garden for a couple of hours a day, when the weather is dry. If they're out too long, or if it's very wet, they turn the lawn into a mud-pit.
When they're out in the garden, they chase the dogs. They don't seem to be frightened of anything!

Re: I'm in terrible disgrace.
You bury a chicken around a terrier and that kinda stuff is bound to happen. You're absolved. Go forth and dig somewhere else.
